Strancice offers cultural history on different scales: a protected heritage chapel with a spring, an educational trail through twelve significant places, and architectural and garden history with specific design dates. There are also recurring festivals at the spring and an annual open-air music festival. For planning, local history, architecture and event dates can be considered as separate points of interest.

Chapel, Spring and Annual Festivals

St. Anne’s Chapel lies southeast of the centre of Strancice, in the direction of the cemetery, in the Jedlovec forest. The protected heritage complex includes the chapel, the spring and the designated grounds of the site. Two annual festivals take place near the spring by the chapel: Slavnost otvírání studánky is celebrated on the last Saturday in May, and Slavnost uspávání studánky on the Friday closest to 11 November. Both events are held in the same area, but follow different calendar rules. Check the date and time again before your trip.

Local History and Educational Trail

The complex of the former Jewish synagogue lies west of the village square. It includes the synagogue and the adjoining rabbi’s house. Engineer Emil Kolben was born in Strancice. The Emil Kolben Educational Trail passes through twelve significant places in Strancice and explores their history; it also features interactive quiz questions. The two formats have different focuses: the synagogue complex concerns two named buildings, while the trail covers twelve places.

Garden and Villa

The garden of the Schnöbling Villa is a 7.8-hectare English landscape park on the southern slope of Hůrka Hill in the northeast of Strancice. Designed by Otokar Fierlinger, it is considered an important example of garden architecture from the first half of the 20th century. Franz Schnöbling’s villa in Strancice was designed in 1929 by Prague architect and builder Tomáš Šašek in the style of late Neoclassical Modernism. The two have different distinguishing features: the park is characterised by its type, area and hillside location, while the villa is defined by its design year, architect and style.

Music Festival and Programme

Strančické záření is an annual, multigenerational open-air music festival held in Strancice, featuring several genres. The programme includes concerts, workshops and visual arts activities. The specific line-up may vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date and programme for that year in advance.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Strancice railway station is on regional railway line 221 between Prague and Benešov u Prahy. If travelling by train, check the timetable for your specific travel date. Near the station, there is a public parking garage or public car park, as well as a local bus stop. These details serve different purposes: the railway line describes the regional connection, while the bus stop and parking options help you find your way around the station. Plan your arrival according to the current timetable.
