Sibřina can be understood through several layers of history: archaeological finds in the cadastral area, the first recorded mention in 1197, and later changes of ownership provide different points of reference. There is also a Neo-Gothic bell tower, historic inscriptions in Stupice, and a Masopust celebration with a clearly specified date. Travelers who like to follow specific years when planning a trip can explore these topics in chronological order.

From Early Settlements to Local History

The earliest traces date back long before the settlement was mentioned in written records. Archaeological finds in the cadastral area of Sibřina attest to several Celtic settlements that were inhabited from the 3rd to the 1st century BC. The year 1197 marks the first recorded mention of Sibřina and thus a written point of reference for its history, not necessarily the year it was founded. The chronology therefore distinguishes between early settlements, the first written mention, and later changes of ownership; these milestones answer different historical questions.

Before 1492, Sibřina, the manor farm, and the rest of the estate came into the possession of Václav Tluksa of Vrábí, the owner of the fortress in Dřevčice. In 1589, Sibřina was transferred to Jaroslav Smiřický of Smiřice and at Kostelec nad Černými Lesy. These later dates indicate changes of ownership; 1197, by contrast, marks the first recorded mention. The earlier transfer explicitly included the manor farm and the rest of the estate as well as Sibřina; the 1589 entry concerns the transfer of Sibřina.

Bell Towers and Memorial Inscriptions

One architectural point of reference is the Neo-Gothic bell tower in Sibřina. It dates from the second half of the 19th century, and the year 1867 is inscribed on the structure. Neo-Gothic refers to a Gothic Revival style, a later adaptation of Gothic design. The general dating to the second half of the century and the year inscribed on the structure complement each other: one gives a period, while the other identifies a specific year.

A listed cross and a bell tower dating from 1826 stand in the village square in Stupice. An inscription on a cross in Stupice names P. Rautenkran and the municipality of Stupice; it also dates from 1826. The year shared by the square’s landmarks and the inscription links details recorded in different ways. The heritage-protection status applies to the cross.

A Dated Glimpse of Masopust

The Masopust celebration in Sibřina was announced for February 14, 2026, as its 25th edition. Meat dishes, pastries, and traditional Masopust drinks were offered at the 2026 celebration. Unlike the historical traces that reach further back, these details refer to a single edition. This dated event thus adds a different, culinary dimension to the local history.
