Škvorec has a distinctive historical focal point: a protected castle complex that reaches into the town center, and the late Baroque Church of St. Anne. There are also natural attractions and opportunities for activities in the wider municipality. This lets you explore culture and landscape as separate themes of your trip, without needing to combine them into a fixed itinerary.

Castle complex extending to the lower square

The extensive castle complex stretches from the northwestern part of the municipality into its center. Its two main buildings—the so-called Old Castle and the so-called New Castle—form the western side of the large lower square, opposite the church. The protected complex also includes the former farmyard, the perimeter wall with its gates, the castle park, and the grounds of the enclosed site.

The New Castle’s architectural form can be described in more detail: it is a long, single-storey building with a thirteen-bay wing and an adjoining chapel. A wide connecting section links the building to the corner of the Old Castle. The complex thus offers several architectural features to look out for as you explore the town: the two main buildings, the connection between them, and how they fit into the square.

Church and traces of history

The Church of St. Anne was built between 1759 and 1767 in the late Baroque style. It borders a cemetery with a cemetery chapel or mortuary. Its date gives the sacred building its own historical context alongside that of the castle complex.

Škvorec’s town history can also be tied to a specific date: on December 13, 1497, Jan Škvorecký z Klinštejna received a privilege from King Vladislav Jagellonský. It elevated Škvorec to the status of a market town and authorized weekly markets on Fridays. The privilege linked Škvorec’s status as a market town at the time with the right to hold weekly Friday markets.

Nature in the wider municipality

Višnovka Nature Park was created from a historic orchard. This origin gives the landscape a distinct connection to the past. For a trip that takes in local nature as well as historic buildings, it offers a different focus from the castle and church.

Near Třebohostice, in the wider municipality, is the former quarry site of Lom Na plachtě, now flooded. The 0.7918-hectare area is protected as a natural monument. Since 1990, granite outcrops with flooded quarry pits have been protected there. The landscape thus reflects both the site’s former use as a quarry and the protection of its geological features.

Trails and an announced celebration

The Hmyzí Trail runs from Třebohostice to Zlatá and back, in the wider municipality. Opened in 2024, this visitor-oriented educational trail is about three kilometers long and has ten stops.

From Škvorec, you can join cycling routes in the direction of Úvaly; the paved paths are also suitable for inline skating. As trail conditions may change, it is advisable to check the current route before setting off.

Announcements in 2025 and 2026 for the Svatoanenská pouť, held for the Feast of St. Anne, said that a Mass in the church was planned to open the event, followed by the pilgrimage celebration at the U Zálabských inn. This information refers to those specific announcements and is not a guarantee of any future program.
