Řež offers three different ways to explore: at the Jaderné muzeum ÚJV Řež, historical measuring instruments and dosimeters sit alongside topics in nuclear technology; the Naučná stezka prof. Čestmíra Šimáně connects the history of the research institute with physical traces of the past; and in U Pasáčka Park, the view turns to the Vltava. You can therefore plan your stay around a particular interest: the history of science, local history or riverside scenery.

Research and technology at the Jaderné muzeum

The Jaderné muzeum ÚJV Řež displays historical radiation-measuring devices and an extensive collection of dosimeters assembled over a long period. The exhibition also explains the development of radiopharmaceuticals and processes for treating radioactive waste. In this way, practical measuring instruments are presented alongside explanations of these processes: the collection provides a historical focus, while radiopharmaceuticals and waste treatment introduce further fields of research. If you would like to make science and technology the focus of your visit, the museum offers a clear thematic focus.

The research institute and local history along the nature trail

The information panels along the Naučná stezka prof. Čestmíra Šimáně cover the history of the research institute, the organizations based there, and their work and research. The trail also includes remains of the old perimeter fence and one-person bunkers. The bunkers provided guards with shelter in the event of an attack. Institutional history and physical traces of the past can thus be explored side by side. Unlike the museum, the focus here is not on a collection, but also on the site and its former security arrangements.

River views and a biocentre at U Pasáčka Park

U Pasáčka Park offers views of the opposite bank and the flowing Vltava. The park is also home to a supraregional biocentre. At the same time, it is an important point on the Zelený okruh jaderným údolím. The river views, biocentre and role on the circular route give the park several different points of interest: it combines a landscape perspective with an ecological focus and a place on the local visitor route.

Another historical highlight

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas (Kaple sv. Václava) offers another distinct historical highlight. It stands in Řež on the bank of a river and was built in gratitude for the end of the Second World War. Its origins set it apart from the museum’s history of research and collections. If you would like to explore local history as well as science, the chapel offers another perspective on the area's past.

Plan your journey and accommodation

You can reach Řež by train from Praha Bubny station in the direction of Kralupy nad Vltavou. A bus runs from Praha-Kobylisy, a station on Metro Line C, to the Husinec, Řež, závod stop. Check the timetables for your travel date before setting off. The Úholičky–Husinec–Řež ferry connects the communities of Úholičky and Husinec–Řež by boat. It operates seasonally, and its service may change; check in advance whether the ferry runs on your travel date.

When looking for a hotel in Řež, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: the museum, the nature trail or the park.
