In Máslovice, several different themes for discovery come together: an educational trail with a viewpoint, an interactive Butter Museum and a nature reserve with special habitats. There are also seasonal butter-churning events and a group activity offered by the Výzkumný ústav včelařský in Dol. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between a specific route, a museum visit and scheduled events.

Educational Trail to the Choč Viewpoint

The “Naučná stezka a vyhlídka Choč” educational trail begins in the village square in front of the museum and ends at the Vltava ferry. A detour to the Choč viewpoint extends the route to 2,700 m. At the viewpoint, visitors can sit on an unusual bench. From there, a narrow, steep path leads down to a path by the water, which continues to the ferry. The viewpoint and descent are therefore specific features of this route—not merely waypoints in a general description of the area.

The ferry is operated by the Výzkumný ústav včelařský and runs between Libčice nad Vltavou and Dol near Máslovice. It is closed to the public when the Vltava’s flow exceeds 400 m³/s or in strong winds. If you plan to take the ferry, check its status before setting out.

Máslovická stráň Nature Reserve

Máslovická stráň Nature Reserve lies within the municipality of Máslovice. It protects rock outcrops and fragments of rocky steppe, as well as meadow and woodland habitats. The protected areas include habitats for protected and endangered plant and animal species. This gives the nature theme a different focus from the educational trail: here, the protected habitats take centre stage, while the route is described in terms of its viewpoint, course and ferry connection.

Butter Museum and Seasonal Events

The “Malé máslovické muzeum másla” is the only museum of its kind in Central Europe and features an interactive exhibition. One special seasonal attraction is the nativity scene made entirely of butter, which has traditionally been on display there during Advent since 2000. Anyone interested in butter traditions can therefore find both an exhibition to visit and a recurring Advent attraction.

Butter-churning also has regular seasonal dates: it takes place in spring, usually in April, as part of the hiking programme “Máslovická šlápota aneb Šlapeme do Máslovic stloukat máslo”. In autumn, it is part of the “Posvícenském vinobraní” in September. The two events therefore fall in different seasons and are linked to specifically named events. If you would like to plan a visit around them, check the exact event dates.

Group Visits and Honey Products in Dol

The Výzkumný ústav včelařský in Dol near Máslovice offers group excursions by individual arrangement. The offer is intended for kindergartens, schools and clubs, as well as children, students and adults; a guided visit lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. The visit must be arranged in advance, so it is best planned as a separate activity by prior agreement.

The institute’s shop in Dol sells mead and honey chocolate, among other products. Opening arrangements may change, so check them before visiting. This gives you a clear choice when planning your stay: the educational trail and viewpoint make up one route option, the museum and butter events offer a cultural focus, and the excursion is an option for groups by arrangement.
