Měšice Castle, its late Baroque details and its 15.24-hectare castle park combine cultural history with nature in the village. A 70-metre sensory path and activities offered by Jezdecká školička add practical things to do. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: castle history, walks in the park or a programme centred on horse riding.

The Castle and Its Technical Features

The castle was built between 1767 and 1775 on the site of an earlier fortress by Antonín Haffenecker for the Nostitz family. It is a late Baroque castle. Its façade still features a clock made in Prague in 1774 by master clockmaker Sebastian Londensperger. The clock, with its Baroque decorative elements, and its mechanism were restored in 2006; the clock was put back into operation on 1 May 2006.

A lightning rod installed in 1775 still stands on the roof. It was installed by Dr Josef Tadeáš Klinkoš, a professor of medicine and physics in Prague. It is described as the first lightning rod in Bohemia and is shaped like a design by Benjamin Franklin. The clock and lightning rod thus represent two different examples of historic technology at the castle, one on its façade and the other on its roof. Měšice Castle Park is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and is listed as number 2106 in the Register of Cultural Monuments.

Walks and Sensory Path in the Park

The park extends south of the castle building across 15.24 hectares. Mature trees make it a pleasant place for walks. A small pond may fill with water after rain and is used by birds from the surrounding area. The park offers different experiences: walks among the trees and a pond whose water level depends on rainfall.

The sensory path is 70 metres long and lets visitors walk barefoot over a range of natural materials: sand, gravel, bark mulch, pine cones and freshly fallen leaves from the surrounding trees. Benches are available for resting and for putting on or taking off shoes. The sensory path is behind the castle on the left, about 100 metres along the path from the meadow. Check its current condition and access before visiting; temporary access restrictions may apply in the park. The barefoot path offers a different experience from a walk among the trees, focusing on the variety of surfaces underfoot.

Horse Riding and Group Activities
