Hlavenec combines architectural and monument history with designated hiking and cycling routes. When planning, it is worth looking at the destinations and route courses separately: the monument to Emperor Charles VI stands in a field near the edge of the village, while the red-marked hiking trail branches off towards it in the village centre. The cycling routes also differ in direction and surface.
Buildings with Different Histories
The monument to Emperor Charles VI depicts Saint Hubert, hunting dogs and a stag with golden antlers. The inscription at the entrance gives 1723–1724 as the years of construction and Matyáš Braun as the sculptor. The monument stands in a field about 0.3 km from the edge of the village. Both the monument and the enclosed plot are protected.
The hunting lodge of Rudolf II, also known as Hubertus, is at the highest point in Hlavenec and can be seen from a distance. It had four turrets; their masonry sections have survived to this day. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, meanwhile, developed from a bell tower dating to 1815. Its replacement bell, Marie-Anna, was consecrated in 1948.
Another historic landmark in the village is the monument to those who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled on 5 July 1930. It was created by the sculptor Emanuel Zentner, who came from Staré Boleslav.
Hiking and Cycling in Hlavenec
The red-marked Kostelec nad Labem–Lysá nad Labem hiking trail passes through Hlavenec and branches off in the village centre towards the monument to Emperor Charles VI. If you plan to visit this destination, bear in mind that the monument is in a field. Check the current trail markings before setting out.
Cycling Route No. 0039, “CĂsaĹ™ská lesnĂ”, follows Road III/2752 into the Hlavenec area. In the southern part of the settlement, it switches to a partly surfaced farm track. At the western edge of the village, it leaves the area in the direction of the swimming pool in Lhota. The surface therefore changes along this route; trail conditions and signage may change.
Cycling Route No. 8156 from Hlavenec, rozcestĂ, to DolnĂ Slivno branches off Route No. 0039 as a local connection. It runs north through the village centre along Road III/2752. By comparison, Route No. 0039 heads south onto the partly surfaced farm track and continues west. The “Krajinou Rudolfa II.” nature trail is designated in Hlavenec and shares sections with the red-marked hiking trail and Cycling Route No. 8156. Check the current trail conditions and signage before setting out.
Lake Lhota is also nearby. It can be reached on foot via farm tracks in about 25 minutes; local access conditions may change.
