Svémyslice combines a clear architectural and historical focus with practical questions for planning a stay. The late Baroque Church of St. Procopius and the bell tower standing to its south offer different points of interest: the year of construction and the history of the roof span several periods. There are also archaeological finds, a water area with fishing permits, the Sluncová sports and children’s playground, and two bus routes. This lets you plan your visit around your interests and check in advance which dates or connections matter for your stay.

Church of St. Procopius and Bell Tower

The Church of St. Procopius was built in 1773 and is a protected cultural monument. It is used for religious services and cultural events. If you would like to combine your visit with a service or event, check the relevant dates in advance. The year of construction and the late Baroque classification provide a firm historical reference point; the church’s use for services and cultural events adds a current function to its architectural history.

The bell tower stands south of the church, beside the enclosure wall of the former cemetery. Its hipped roof dates from 1846 and replaced an earlier onion dome. This makes it possible to distinguish a later change in the roof shape from the year the church was built. A hipped roof has sloping surfaces on the end walls as well; an onion dome, by contrast, has a bulbous curve. This comparison makes two different roof shapes and their dates easier to understand. The ground floor of the bell tower is accessible through an entrance added later to the north façade. Check access arrangements before visiting.

Archaeological Traces

The archaeological finds date to much earlier periods. In Svémyslice, these include a Bell Beaker culture grave, a vessel from the Early Bronze Age, and an Eneolithic settlement. Compared with the church and the history of its roof, these remains reach much further back in time. They also represent different types of finds: a burial, a vessel, and a settlement. The local history thus complements the area’s architectural development with a prehistoric perspective.

Water Area and Playground

The Svémyslice water area is managed as part of fish farming. The municipality issues fishing permits during its office hours on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m.; alternatively, an appointment can be arranged in advance with the mayor. If fishing is part of your stay, factor in the stated office hours or arrange an appointment in advance, and check the procedure before visiting.

The 2022 operating rules for the Sluncová sports and children’s playground specify play equipment for children up to the age of twelve. Since the rules date from that year, check what equipment is currently available before visiting.
