In Krušovice, brewery history and specific trail options sit side by side. This means you can focus on culture, hiking or cycling during your stay. The Louštín hike leads to a summit 537 metres high; the route to nearby Rabas Mill follows field and forest tracks and is mostly away from marked hiking trails. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether brewing tradition, hiking or cycling should shape your stay.
Brewery History and Museum
Beer has been brewed at the Krušovice Brewery since 1581. The brewery museum displays equipment used in hop growing and malt production. It also features cooper’s and blacksmith’s tools used to make barrels. The exhibits thus connect the cultivation and processing of raw materials with the craft of barrel-making. If you are interested in the material side of brewing tradition, you will find more here than just a date: hops, malt and barrel-making are presented as distinct areas of work.
Hiking: Elevation and Trail Markings
The Louštín hike leads to the 537-metre summit and has a total elevation gain of 150 metres. The summit elevation and total ascent are different measurements: the first gives the height of the destination, while the second is the elevation difference to be covered on the hike. The route also follows marked hiking trails except for two short sections. The elevation and trail markings therefore provide two specific points of reference when choosing a route.
The route to Rabas Mill follows a different course: it takes field and forest tracks, some of which are paved, and—apart from a short section at the start—runs mostly away from marked hiking trails. Compared with the Louštín route, the trail markings are a practical difference: that route has two short exceptions, whereas most of this one is unmarked. The mill is in the vicinity of Krušovice, its history dates back to the 16th century, and it is the birthplace of the painter Václav Rabas. It is not possible to visit the interior; the mill can only be viewed from the outside. Access may change if the site is restored or opened to visitors.
Nature and History
On Louštín, the hike passes the ruins of the wall of the former Křivoklát game park, which dates back to the 18th century. Also on Louštín, in the vicinity of Krušovice, are the remains of a prehistoric hillfort that probably dates from the La Tène period. The two traces point to different periods: the wall belonged to a former game park, while the hillfort’s dating is uncertain.
Three pedunculate oaks near Krušovice are designated as natural monuments. On Louštín, imposing beeches are a modest example of the area’s original forests. Another local feature is the Baroque Jordánek Chapel. It stands above a pond basin fed by a spring.
