Those exploring Chotěšov on foot can follow two clearly described routes: a permanently green-marked hiking trail runs from Petrohrad through the village to Bílenec; the hike to Vlčí hora starts in the village square. This makes it possible to plan a route around specific starting points and destinations.

Hiking: Route and Starting Point

The green markings indicate a trail running through the villages of Petrohrad–Chotěšov–Bílenec. Chotěšov is therefore on the route, between the other two villages. This distinguishes the trail description from the hike to Vlčí hora, whose starting point in the village is specified more precisely. When choosing a hike, you can first consider whether a route passing through several villages or a specific starting point would work better for your day’s plans.

The hike from Chotěšov to Vlčí hora starts in the village square. Along this route, modest remains of prehistoric burial mounds can also be found in the area around Rudolfova myslivna. This archaeological detail adds another point of reference along the way to help orient visitors. Both the starting point in the village and the area around Rudolfova myslivna are therefore relevant when planning the hike.

Šprymberk and Baroque Architecture

The ruins of Šprymberk Castle are best reached via a forest path that begins at the crossroads before the red barrier. Two deep ditches mark the castle site. The route’s starting point and the terrain offer two different points of reference: the forest path indicates the way in, while the ditches help identify the former castle site.

The wayside shrine near Chotěšov is a late Baroque example of the less common triangular wayside shrines. Its ground-plan shape probably alludes to the mystery of the Holy Trinity, in keeping with the Baroque mysticism of the 18th century. This possible interpretation links its distinctive shape to a religious reading, offering a cultural-history focus different from hiking trails and castle ruins.

Plan Your Accommodation and Journey

When looking for a holiday apartment in Chotěšov, the route points can help structure your plans for the day. The hike to Vlčí hora has a clearly specified starting point in the village square, while the green hiking trail is identified by the sequence of villages it passes through. For Šprymberk, the forest path starting at the crossroads before the red barrier is a specific point of reference. First consider which of these activities you want to shape your stay, then base your accommodation search on that.

The dates are important for bus travel: due to the complete closure of road III/2243 in Petrohrad, most journeys on route 766 will be diverted from 15 June to 15 November 2026 and will not serve the “Jesenice, Chotěšov” stop. Journeys 106 and 113 are exceptions. If you plan to travel on the route during this period, check the timetable for your specific journey before setting off. For later journeys, it is worth checking the connection again.
