Krivoklat combines castle culture, nature topics and a specialized motorcycle collection. To choose the focus that suits you, you can opt for a castle tour, two educational trails with different themes, a recreational and educational area with a forest playground, and a motorcycle museum. This lets you tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.

Křivoklát Castle and Its Tours

Křivoklát Castle is a national cultural monument. On guided tours of the castle, visitors see the late Gothic castle chapel, as well as the Great and Small Knights’ Halls. One of the tours’ thematic focuses is the House of Habsburg. The named rooms and historical theme give the castle visit a clear cultural and historical focus.

Motorcycle History on the Castle Grounds

The Muzeum Křivoklát is located right on the castle grounds, below the castle. Its content differs considerably from the castle tour: the museum has a specialized motorcycle exhibition area and displays around 150 exhibits. These include a complete series of mass-produced Jawa and ČZ touring motorcycles, from the start of production through 1959, as well as models made later. The collection also features almost all versions of Jawa automobiles, Praga motorcycles, Pionýr mopeds, and the Stadion, Jaweta and Babeta mopeds, along with other specialist models. The collection may change.

This brings two distinct cultural themes together on the same castle grounds: the castle, with its chapel, knights’ halls and focus on the House of Habsburg, and the history of motorcycles and other vehicles. If you are interested in technology, the collection offers its own thematic perspective; for castle architecture and the tour content, the rooms and the House of Habsburg take center stage.

Two Educational Trails, Different Themes

The Brdatka Educational Trail is known for its unique views of the Berounka Valley. Its 17 information panels cover the reserve, as well as fauna, flora and forests. This means the trail combines scenic views with nature-related topics. The panel content may be updated.

The Křivoklát School Educational Trail has a different focus: it starts at the primary school in Křivoklát, on the left side of the Berounka, and forms a loop with eight information panels on forests, water, trees and shrubs, and animals. After completing the trail, visitors return to the school. Local access conditions may change; check them before your visit.

The trail content and landmarks are the main points to consider when choosing between the routes: Brdatka offers views of the Berounka Valley and covers the reserve, plants, animals and forests. The School Educational Trail focuses on forests, water, trees and shrubs, and animals, and leads back to the school. This gives visitors two clearly distinct ways to explore nature-related topics.

Outdoor Recreation and Play

The recreational and educational area and the Křivoklát forest playground can be visited at any time and free of charge. Facilities include a rope course, slides, climbing structures, a fire pit, information panels and a geological exhibition. This offering has a different emphasis from the educational trails: alongside information, it features the listed play and recreational facilities. Details of the facilities may change; check which elements are available before your visit.

Cycling Route Through Křivoklát

Cycling is also relevant when planning your trip: the KO8 cycling route passes through Křivoklát. Route conditions and signage may change. Check them before setting off so that your plans are based on the current route information.
