Višňová brings together the filming locations of the TV series Chalupáři and the historic ensemble of the parish Church of St. Catherine. This gives you two distinct points of interest during your stay: the history of the TV series in the village and the architectural styles around the church. It is also helpful to distinguish between the routes: alongside a route connected with the series, there is a blue-marked hiking route through Višňová and the surrounding area.
The filming history of Chalupáři
The TV series Chalupáři was filmed mostly during the summer months of 1974 in Višňová. In the series, Višňová was renamed Třešňová. The two names thus refer to the real place and the name it was given in the history of television.
A 2.5-kilometre village route recalls well-known locations from Chalupáři. In the village, visitors can see nearly twenty locations familiar from the series; the number may change if the signage is updated.
Information boards about filming locations from Chalupáři are located at five sites. A blue-marked hiking route passes through Višňová’s points of interest and the surrounding area. Check the local markings before setting off.
The distinction is useful when choosing a route based on your interests: the village route focuses on the series locations in the village, while the blue-marked hiking route also takes in the surrounding area. A report from June 2024 names Jaroslav Hejda as the organiser of guided tours explaining the Chalupáři filming locations. Before your trip, check whether these tours are currently available.
The Parish Church of St. Catherine
The parish Church of St. Catherine stands south of the Kocába River, by Homolka Pond, and is an Early Gothic building dating from around 1300. The church grounds also include a stone Early Baroque crucifix from the second half of the 17th century.
The complex also includes the lower, rectangular Baroque Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre and a Late Baroque rectory from the second half of the 18th century. The rectory has a striking mansard roof covered with shingles.
The dates show the complex’s historical span: from the Early Gothic church of around 1300, through the Early Baroque crucifix from the second half of the 17th century, to the Late Baroque rectory from the second half of the 18th century. The architectural interest is not limited to the church building; the chapel, crucifix and rectory also contribute to the complex’s variety through their distinct forms.
Competition and route distances
The Chalupářský teréňák is a running competition for runners and non-runners alike. At its fourth edition in 2022, a seven-kilometre course went around Homolka Pond, also known locally as Šeňák. This distance applies to that edition and should be distinguished from the 2.5-kilometre village route. If you would like to plan your trip around the competition, check the current event dates.
