Nechvalice can be explored through two specific questions: Which of the two numbered cycling routes leads to the destination you have in mind, and which historical traces interest you? Cycling routes 8139 and 8143 cross in the town; the Milevsko–Prčice–Milevsko route also passes through Nechvalice. Route selection and local history therefore offer two different ways to plan your stay.

Compare cycling routes by distance and destination

The 14-kilometre cycling route 8139 runs from Petrovice via Nechvalice to Vápenice near Vysoký Chlumec. Cycling route 8143 also runs from Petrovice via Nechvalice, but continues to Nové Dvory near Sedlec-Prčice. It is 12 kilometres long. Both cycling routes therefore have a point of reference in Nechvalice, but differ in length and named destination.

The route of cycling route 8143 also includes Libčice and Ředice: from Nechvalice, the described sequence continues via these places to Nové Dvory. This gives you two ways to compare the routes: their lengths and their respective destinations. The crossing in Nechvalice brings both cycling routes together in the same place, while their different continuations lead in different directions.

The Milevsko–Prčice–Milevsko route also passes through Nechvalice. It complements the two cycling routes as another named route. To find your way, you can distinguish between route numbers 8139 and 8143, their lengths and destinations, while also taking the route named Milevsko–Prčice–Milevsko into account.

The church and the town’s earlier history

The Church of St. Nicholas was originally built in the Romanesque style and later remodelled in the Gothic style. Two building phases can therefore be seen side by side: a Romanesque origin and a later Gothic alteration. The style terms help explain the sequence; they do not refer to two different buildings.

The interior of the church also contains an original tin baptismal font dating from 1788. Its material and year make it a precisely dated detail of the church’s furnishings. Together with the building’s history, the font offers a second perspective on St. Nicholas: alongside the development of the building, a single item of furnishings is also among its recorded features.

Another historical trace is the former fortress above the stream in Nechvalice. The judge, or local head, lived there. While the church is associated with its building phases and furnishings, the former fortress points to the role of a local official. Thus, Nechvalice’s religious architectural history and the former residence of the local administration can be viewed as different aspects of the town’s history.
