A Romanesque nave, a hillfort on a partly wooded hill, and hiking trails in the surrounding area give Ouběnice a variety of attractions, from architectural history to landscapes. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between cultural events and outdoor activities: for the pilgrimage and trial events, the dates matter; for hiking, the route and terrain are key.

Church and cultural events

The Church of St Margaret has a Romanesque nave and a tower dating from the late 12th century. It was extended with a chancel in the 14th century and took on its Baroque appearance in 1759. This sequence reveals several distinct building phases: the Romanesque core and later alterations belong to different periods.

The Ouběnice pilgrimage in July commemorates the victims of Heydrich’s terror from Ouběnice and the surrounding area. A pilgrimage Mass is held in the chapel once a year. Check the exact date before travelling so that your visit coincides with the cultural events you want to attend.

Hiking and cycling

A marked hiking trail runs along existing farm tracks and forest paths, and occasionally along roads. The blue-marked Skalice–Višňová hiking trail is designated in the Ouběnice area. A blue-marked hiking trail to nearby attractions passes through Chaloupky. The markings help you find your way when hiking; however, do not expect the entire route described to consist of forest paths. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Ouběnice and its surroundings are suitable for recreational cycling, even though no marked cycle routes run through the municipality. This calls for a different approach to planning than the marked hiking trails: cycling is a suitable leisure activity, but you should not assume there is a signposted cycle route through the municipality. Signposting and trail conditions may change.

The surrounding area includes woods, streams and ponds, making it suitable for active and passive recreation. A rest area beside the pond in Ouběnice is available to visitors passing through on excursions. It provides a specific place to stop for a break, while the trails vary in their markings and surfaces.

The Kocába and traces of the past

The hillfort near Ouběnice is on a partly wooded hill with two summits above the right bank of the Kocába stream. It lies about one kilometre southwest of Ouběnice and 0.5 kilometres west of the settlement of Chaloupky. The hillfort site is thought to have several parts; a presumed acropolis is thought to have stood on the northern summit, surrounded by a rampart. The age of the site is not yet known. Its possible layout and the lack of a date are separate aspects of its history.

The remains of the Podolský, Pytlíkův, Čermákův mlýn mill lie on the outskirts of Ouběnice. They consist of ruins and overgrown remains; access is only possible via the path to the Kocába. Here, the structural remains of a mill stand in contrast to an archaeological site on a hill—two different ways to explore the village’s past.

Trial tradition and fishing

Since 2006, the Automotoklub Ouběnice – Bikers Village has organised national and international motorcycle trials competitions, and since 2014, biketrial competitions as well. The best-known events in Ouběnice include Motoorání and trial competitions. If these events are important to your trip, check the latest dates in advance.

For anglers, the Kocába 1 A fishing area offers another local connection to the water: it includes the 0.9-hectare Splavěcí water body in the cadastral area of Ouběnice. Regulations and access conditions may change; check the current requirements before going fishing.
