Příbram can be explored through a variety of themes: mining history, a Baroque pilgrimage site and trails through the landscape along the Litavka. The sights and activities offer different starting points for planning—from historic sites to educational trails covering nature and history.
Mining history in Březové Hory
The Hornické muzeum Příbram is located in Březové Hory. This open-air mining museum comprises the Vojtěch Mine, Anenská Shaft and Ševčinský Mine sites. In terms of the number of historic sites with exhibitions, it is the largest mining museum in the Czech Republic. The headframe of the Vojtěch Mine is a technical architectural monument dating from 1870, adding a tangible structure from mining history to your museum visit.
The visitor experience includes a ride on the mine train, both above and below ground. Check the train’s operating details before your visit. You can plan the ride as part of your museum visit.
Svatá Hora and historic buildings
Svatá Hora is a national cultural monument, a major Baroque complex and a pilgrimage site. It has stood about 590 m above the city for almost 350 years. The complex is open to the public for individual visits; check access again before setting out. A covered staircase leads to Svatá Hora from the centre of Příbram. There are said to be 365 steps in total to the Coronation Altar.
Other buildings also offer a glimpse into the city’s history. Zámeček-Ernestinum is one of the oldest surviving monuments in Příbram. Today, it houses a wedding hall and the city gallery named after the renowned Czech photographer František Drtikol. The Church of sv. Jakuba Většího, also called kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího, is probably Příbram’s oldest urban architectural monument. Together, these places reveal different aspects of the city’s historic heritage, while representing different functions and periods.
Educational trails and nature along the Litavka
In Lesopark Litavka, a network of paths leads to woodland corners, floodplain meadows, the Litavka River and ponds hidden among the trees. On walks, visitors may spot rare globe flowers and irises; kingfishers can occasionally be seen above the river. These sightings depend on different encounters with nature: you may come across the plants along the paths, while kingfishers are only seen occasionally.
The Naučná stezka lesoparku Litavka is an educational trail with twelve stops on the southwestern outskirts of Příbram, in the Litavka valley. The stops provide information about local fauna and flora, as well as places where silver ore was processed centuries ago. Children can complete various fun activities along the way. The trail thus combines nature topics with an insight into the area’s mining history.
The Naučná stezka Padák has a different focus: its eleven stops explain the roles of the landscape and forest in the ecosystem. The educational trail is about 2.7 km long and features play and discovery elements. By contrast, the Litavka trail focuses on local nature and the history of silver ore processing. A cycling route towards Tok
The “From Příbram to Tok” route starts in Orlov and follows cycle routes 8190 and 8258 towards Tok. At 865 m, Tok is the highest mountain in the Brdy. The route name and the actual starting point are therefore different: for planning purposes, Orlov is the starting point of the route described here. Before cycling, check the route details against current trail conditions.
Whether you are interested in mining, sacred architecture, nature watching or a cycling route, Příbram offers a variety of themes to shape your stay around. The destinations and educational trails mentioned differ in their content and character, so choose according to which of these aspects you would most like to explore.
