Kropáčova Vrutice lies on the southern slope of the Košátecký Brook valley. Its natural features range from a botanical site with old fruit trees to a peat bog and a meadow in Hájek. There is also a marked cycle route, a railway station and historical connections. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether nature, cycling, local history or travelling by train is most important for your trip.

Location and botanical features

The brook is also connected to the Vrutický pramen: the spring lies on the southeastern edge of Hájek, and its water flows into the Košátecký Brook. Musalova stráň offers a different aspect of the landscape. The botanical site covers five hectares and includes grassy and shrub-covered slopes, old fruit trees, and heat-loving grass and herb communities. It is also part of the local LBC 294 biocorridor. The water features and botanical characteristics bring different aspects of the landscape into focus.

Peat bog, meadow and area sizes

Hájek is also home to a 2.6-hectare peat bog and a meadow of around ten hectares. At five hectares, Musalova stráň lies between the two in terms of area; the meadow is about twice the size of the botanical site and nearly four times the size of the peat bog. This comparison gives a sense of the different scales of the three landscape features.

Cycling on Route 8146

For cycling visitors, marked cycle route 8146 is a useful point of reference. It passes through Kropáčova Vrutice and connects the Kokořínsko area with the former Milovice-Mladá military area. The route can be understood both by its passage through the town and by the two areas it connects. Check current route conditions before setting out.

The town’s name and historical connections

The town’s history includes the Kropáč family, who owned Vrutice until 1710. The name element “Kropáčova” comes from the name of this owning family, and thus explains part of the town’s name. Another historical connection is Miroslav Tyrš: he moved with his mother to live with relatives in Kropáčova Vrutice, where his mother died in 1838. The two dates refer to different events: 1710 marks the end of the family’s ownership, while 1838 marks the death of Tyrš’s mother.

Getting there and choosing accommodation

Kropáčova Vrutice railway station is on line 070 between Praha-Čakovice and Turnov. If you plan to travel by train, check the current train connections and timetable for your travel date. The station is relevant to your arrival plans; cycle route 8146 is an option for an activity during your trip. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore first decide whether to prioritise nature, history, cycling or getting there.

These topics can help with different decisions: the landscape and history offer points of reference when choosing a destination, while the cycle route and railway station relate to practical aspects of travel.
