Kochánky lies in the fertile valley of the Jizera. If you are looking for accommodation here, a useful first question is whether your stay should focus on protected areas and landscapes, local history or a route.

Natural Monuments on the Jizera

The Stráně u Kochánek Natural Monument protects common juniper formations on heathland or calcareous dry grassland. The protected area includes two habitat types: T3.4B refers to broad-leaved dry grassland without a significant orchid population, with common juniper; T3.3D refers to narrow-leaved dry grassland, also without a significant orchid population. These are two distinct forms of dry grassland, with juniper belonging to the T3.4B habitat.

The Slepeč Natural Monument offers a different landscape feature. Parts of the protected area lie within the cadastral area of Kochánky. It is situated on the right bank of the Jizera, on a gently south-facing plateau divided by several dry erosion gullies towards the river. The area is protected for its population of lady’s slipper orchid, which is endangered in the Pojizeří region. Unlike the dry grasslands and juniper formations of Stráně u Kochánek, Slepeč is therefore notable for a specifically named endangered orchid.

Local History and Remembrance

Old walls were discovered at “V Zámku” in the centre of the village, in the area of house No. 161. According to tradition, a robber-knight’s manor once stood there. Its former use is therefore a matter of local tradition, while the site of the discovery is specifically located in Kochánky.

František Šťastný Park commemorates the distinguished sports champion František Šťastný, who came from Kochánky, and other racers who contributed to the success of Czechoslovak motorcycle sport. The park thus connects a local figure with a broader chapter of sports history. Stará škola Park serves a different purpose: it provides a place for passive recreation for the residents of Kochánky and other visitors to the municipality.

Educational Trail, Cycle Route and Fishing Water

The Krajinou Rudolfa II. educational trail runs through flat terrain and is suitable for recreational cyclists, families with children and walkers. Kochánky is located at approximately kilometre 32 along the route; the trail has 17 information panels in total. KČT cycle route 0241 leads from Benátky nad Jizerou towards Kochánky. The two route descriptions therefore differ: the educational trail is given an approximate position along its route, while the cycle route is described by its starting point and direction.

Another point of interest is the Kochánky u jezu water, which covers 1.0 ha and belongs to the JIZERA 1 A (411 174) fishing area. If you have specific fishing plans, check the current conditions for the area, as its classification and conditions may be updated.
