Uhlířské Janovice offer several different ways to enjoy a stay: Gothic and late Baroque churches, traces of Jewish history, hiking trails, a long-distance cycling route and a natural swimming pool. At the Church of St Giles, part of the masonry of an older Romanesque church has been preserved; the Church of St Aloysius stands in the middle of the town square. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether to focus on architectural history, outdoor activities or time for a swim.
Churches and Architectural History
The Church of St Giles is a medium-sized Gothic church with a polygonal presbytery and a northern sacristy. Part of the masonry of an older Romanesque church has been preserved in the nave; the presbytery contains notable Gothic wall paintings. The multi-sided presbytery and the sacristy on the north side give the building a clear layout. The church brings together Gothic design and older masonry. The wall paintings are in the presbytery; access to the interior may vary. If you are planning to visit the interior, check in advance whether a visit is possible.
The Church of St Aloysius stands in the town square. The late Baroque building was completed in 1795; its interior furnishings are Baroque and Rococo in style. In contrast to the Gothic Church of St Giles, with its preserved Romanesque masonry, St Aloysius offers a different architectural accent. If you would like to see the interiors of both churches, check in advance whether a visit is possible, as access may vary.
Jewish History
The former synagogue was built in 1798 in the Baroque style and now serves as a prayer house for the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. If you are planning a visit, check its current use and whether visits are possible in advance. The Noci kostelů programme on 29 May 2026 offered a free guided tour of the former synagogue at Husův sbor; historical photographs were also shown.
At the former Jewish cemetery in Uhlířské Janovice, part of the surrounding wall and two gravestones remain. One of the gravestones was converted into a memorial to the destroyed cemetery. The cemetery and synagogue thus offer different points of interest for a visit, from the preserved gravestones and surrounding wall to the history of the former prayer house.
Trails and Natural Swimming Pool
The Pražská trasa long-distance cycling route passes through Uhlířské Janovice. A green-marked hiking trail also runs through the town; the yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the local railway station. The routes therefore differ by activity and starting point: the yellow trail begins at the station, while the green trail and cycling route pass through the town. Check the current trail markings locally before relying on a specific route.
For a swimming break, there is a natural swimming pool with a grassy, tree-shaded bank. Before planning a swim, check the current bathing conditions and access. The municipal cultural and information centre includes an exhibition hall and a library. If you plan to visit, check the current opening arrangements in advance here, too. This lets you choose between culture, trails and a possible swim according to your interests.
