The Teutonic Order’s commandery and the Brslenka give Drobovice two distinct points of reference: a history dating back to the 13th century and a stream that flows through the town. When planning a stay, you can weigh up the town’s history and the riverside landscape as different interests.

Putting the commandery and local history into context

Around 1240, Jan z Polné founded the Teutonic Order’s commandery. Drobovice was first mentioned in 1242, when Wenceslas I confirmed the Teutonic Order’s ownership of the settlement. The dates, which are close together, mark different events: 1240 refers to the founding of the commandery, while 1242 marks the first mention of the town together with confirmation of ownership. This makes it possible to distinguish the history of the establishment from the town’s early history.

In the Middle Ages, according to written sources, the commandery was an important institution and an extensive, prestigious building complex. The Hussites destroyed it in 1421. In 1356, Emperor Charles IV granted the monastery in Drobovice the right to impose the death penalty. The hill known as Bambousek is also a historic point of reference in the town: it is called Šibeniční vrch (“Gallows Hill”) and is associated with executions by hanging.

The former site and what it looks like today

The commandery stood in the southern part of Drobovice, on the left bank of the Čáslavka, also known as the Brslenka. The grounds extended from the cemetery area beyond the Mlýnský potok. These location details place the history in a specific part of the town.

Today, no above-ground remains of the commandery are visible at the site. This distinction is important when planning a visit: the historical connection lies in the history and location of the former complex, not in visible masonry remains.

Distinguishing the Brslenka from the hiking route

The Brslenka flows through Drobovice and empties into the Dubí pond nearby. The stream and pond mark different points in the waterscape: the stream flows through the town, while the pond is near its mouth. This offers a separate landscape feature alongside the town’s history.

A green-marked hiking route starts in Čáslav and passes Drobovice. It is therefore a different planning consideration from the stream that flows through the town. If you plan to take the route, check its current course before setting out.

Tailoring your stay to your interests

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can assess Drobovice as a destination based on whether the history of the commandery and the waterside landscape suit your interests. If you want to include a hike in your stay, consider the green-marked route as a separate part of your plans. Its starting point in Čáslav and its course past Drobovice help distinguish this option from a stay focused on local history.
