Routes and landscapes around Tatce

When planning a visit to Tatce, you can focus on different things: a stage of the Blaník–Říp Pilgrimage Route, a cycling route that passes directly through the village, or a themed route featuring local stories. The area also has a mostly flat landscape and cultural and leisure attractions in the village. If you are considering Tatce as a base for an overnight stay, you can first decide whether routes or local discoveries will shape your visit.

Tatce lies on the fourth stage of the Blaník–Říp Pilgrimage Route. The entire route is divided into seven stages and measures just under 190 kilometres. This gives you two different points of reference: the length and number of stages of the pilgrimage route as a whole, and Tatce’s specific location on stage four. Those interested in pilgrimage trails can thus get an overview of the route’s scale as well as a clear connection to the village.

Cycling Route No. 109 runs directly through Tatce; check current cycling maps before setting out. Tatce is also in a mostly flat landscape. These features give cycling plans a concrete connection to the village without making any claims about the course of the entire route.

Another type of route is Tajuplná místa Podlipanska, on which Tatce is stop 7. The route consists of 20 numbered information panels located at notable sites in various municipalities. The panels present local stories and legends associated with each place, supplemented by photographs and further information. The stops are several kilometres apart, so the route is more suitable for drivers or cyclists. This spread-out layout is a practical distinction from the single stop that Tatce represents on the route.

Chapel, local history and the Bronze Age

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary (Panny Marie) stands in the western part of Tatce: a rectangular building dating from 1843, with a small structure on top for a bell. The first written mention of Tatce dates from 1292. These two dates mark different historical reference points: 1292 belongs to the village’s written history, and 1843 to the history of the chapel’s construction.

Za Mlýnem also offers a glimpse into a much earlier period. The settlement there is dated to around 900 BC, in the Late Bronze Age. Excavations also uncovered the skeletal remains of a child from the Early Bronze Age (around 2000–1550 BC) and a middle-aged woman from the Middle Bronze Age (around 1500–1300 BC). The archaeological findings therefore span different Bronze Age periods and date from long before Tatce’s first written mention.

Leisure and travel planning

The multi-purpose sports field in Tatce is intended for sports and leisure activities for the general public. The Dětské hřiště U Statku playground, completed in 2024, has a rope carousel, swings, climbing equipment, a slide and spring riders. This gives visitors a choice of different local leisure facilities: a sports and recreation field with a broad purpose, and a playground with specifically listed equipment. If you are travelling with children and want to include a playground in your plans, you can use these facilities as a guide.

Road II/334 passes through Tatce and connects Sadská, Kouřim and Sázava. Check current traffic conditions when planning a specific journey. Tatce is also on the Prague–Kolín railway line; check the current timetables before travelling by train.
