Radovesnice II can be explored through a range of themes: historic tractors at the Muzeum Veteránů, a large ceramic Christmas nativity scene, and two protected forest areas. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay here, you can start by choosing your focus: technology and local history, culture, or nature.
Historic Tractors in Nine Halls
The Muzeum Veteránů Radovesnice II displays historic tractors, including LANZ BULLDOG, Landini, and Vierzon models, as well as a half-track Zetor and an MB Trac. The exhibits are spread across a total of nine halls. The range of models gives the collection its technical focus and makes it a destination in its own right for anyone interested in historic agricultural machinery.
For groups of 15 or more, guided tours outside regular opening hours are possible by prior arrangement. If you are planning such a tour, arrange it before you travel and confirm the current arrangements with the museum.
The RadovesnickĂ˝ Nativity Scene
The Radovesnický betlém offers a different perspective on local culture: this ceramic Christmas nativity scene is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic and includes more than 470 ceramic figures. A central band depicts a typical Czech rural landscape, with small churches and folk-style buildings. The work thus brings together numerous figures and a carefully composed landscape.
The nativity scene is open all day from the beginning of Advent until 31 January; check these seasonal visiting hours before your trip. Visits outside this period can be arranged by telephone. Plan your visit around this seasonal period and arrange any visit outside it by phone in advance.
Two Protected Forest Areas
The Žiželický les natural monument lies within the cadastral areas of Choťovice, Končice, and Radovesnice II. Its protected habitats include oak-hornbeam and oak forest communities. The scarce fritillary (Euphydryas maturna), stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), and lady’s slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) are also among the area’s protected features.
Two access routes are described: from the north, an unmarked path leads from the Korce farmstead to Žiželický les; from the south, a path branches off the Dománovice–Žiželice road. The “unmarked” detail is important for navigation.
The Dománovický les nature reserve lies within the cadastral areas of Dománovice and Radovesnice II. It protects a natural Hercynian oak-hornbeam forest, oak forests, and rare animal and plant species, including orchids and butterflies. By comparison, specific forest communities and the three species named above are explicitly highlighted at Žiželický les, while the description of Dománovický les also refers to rare species in general. Follow current nature conservation guidance when visiting.
Local History and Getting There
The Libněveská řepařská drážka is also associated with Radovesnice II. This historic sugar-beet railway was narrow-gauge, with a track gauge of 600 millimetres. It began operating on 18 August 1925. The castle of Radovesnice II is also part of the town’s history; it was first mentioned in 1571. No structural remains of the vanished castle survive; the place name “Na Hrádku” recalls its existence. The cemetery gate in Radovesnice II is an Empire-style structure dating from the early 19th century.
Radovesnice II can be reached by bus from KolĂn, Kutná Hora, or Chlumec nad Cidlinou. Check connections before travelling. When searching for a holiday apartment, it helps to consider what you want to focus on during your stay: the museum and historical landmarks on one hand, or the seasonal nativity scene and forest areas on the other. This will help you decide which of these themes to include in your travel plans for Radovesnice II.
