Different ways of exploring history come together in Malé Kysice: the hillfort on Vysoký vrch dates to the pre-Christian period, Proškův mlýn retains historic structural features, and the Kaplička Panny Marie Žlábecké is associated with a local tradition. A red-marked section of the Stezkami Barrandienu route also leads to the village center. These themes offer different starting points for planning your trip—from archaeological traces to walking routes and cycling options.

The Hillfort on Vysoký vrch

The archaeological hillfort lies on a rocky outcrop covering about 1.5 hectares. Cliffs protect the plateau to the northwest; little remains today of the stone rampart. The site was discovered in 1961 and dates from the 5th to the 3rd century BC. Its location, size, and surviving wall remains provide different clues for understanding the hillfort.

These dates clearly set the site apart from the area’s later historical themes. If you are particularly interested in archaeological sites, it offers a clear connection to a specific period; if you prefer architectural history and surviving features, you could focus on Proškův mlýn.

Proškův mlýn and the Chapel Tradition

Proškův mlýn is located in the area of Malé Kyšice. It was first mentioned in writing in 1432, and perimeter walls from that period have survived. Inside, there is a black kitchen with a smoke chamber dating from the 18th century, as well as mill machinery documenting developments from the 17th to the early 20th century. The mill is open to the public several times a year; check the dates before visiting.

The Kaplička Panny Marie Žlábecké adds a different kind of story. According to local tradition, the Pěnkava couple had it built in 1649 by a spring with healing water after their blind daughter Sabina recovered. The story is explicitly a legend: it centers on the traditional account of why the chapel was built, not on an additional archaeological date.

The cultural themes therefore differ not only in age, but also in how they can be explored: through the hillfort’s dating and few surviving wall remains, the mill’s written mention and historic features, and the chapel’s local story. This can help you choose what to focus on during a visit, according to your interests.

Route and Cycling Options

A red-marked section of the Stezkami Barrandienu route leads to the center of Malé Kyšice. Markings and trail surfaces may change; check the route locally. This information describes the section leading to the village center and offers a specific reference point for your planning.

Netopýr Bike offers a bike park, a pump track, and trails. If you would like to include cycling options in your trip, check what is currently available before you travel. This gives you specific activities to choose from alongside the cultural and historical sites, without implying that they form part of a single route.

What to Focus on During Your Stay

When planning your trip, you can first decide whether you are more interested in archaeological history, historic mill machinery, or the tradition surrounding the chapel. If you would also like to plan walking routes or cycling activities, there are named options for those too. You can prioritize the different themes according to your interests without having to follow a set daily itinerary.
