Vracovice offers three distinct highlights: the wetland landscape of the Částrovické ponds, a chapel with a clearly documented history of renovation, and a cycling route that passes through the village. When planning your visit, you can decide whether nature, local history or cycling should be the main focus.

Částrovické Ponds and Their Protected Areas

The Částrovické ponds protected area lies one kilometre southeast of Vracovice. It consists of three smaller ponds and wet meadows in a shallow valley along the Částrovický stream. Machlov Pond is part of the Částrovické ponds natural monument in the Blaník Protected Landscape Area.

The wet meadows are home to protected plant species such as the broad-leaved marsh orchid and bogbean. Machlov Pond is now considered an important natural area with a diverse community of plants and animals. Part of Vracovice’s cadastral area also lies within the Blaník Protected Landscape Area. The development of Machlov Pond also includes a restoration project coordinated with the municipality of Vracovice. The pond was dredged, the dam was repaired, and the pond ecosystem was fully restored.

Chapel and Local History

The chapel in Vracovice is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. During its reconstruction from 1980 to 1984, the ceiling was raised, and a choir and a tower were added. The renovation transformed the original chapel into a small church. The building’s history links its present-day appearance to a clearly defined period.

A memorial plaque commemorating those who fell in the First World War is mounted on the chapel wall on the village green. The dedication, structural changes and memorial plaque each offer a different point of interest: they refer to Saints Cyril and Methodius, the chapel’s transformation and the remembrance of the fallen.

Cycling and Practical Planning

The approximately 25-kilometre “In the Footsteps of the Blaník Knights” cycling route passes through Vracovice. There are six rest stops with information boards along the route. It follows forest and field paths, as well as roads with light traffic for only part of the way. If you are planning to ride it, check the current route before setting out.

Every year, Vracovice joins other villages and Kraj blanických rytířů, z. s., in organising the “Blanický cyklorytíř” cycling event. It traditionally opens the cycling season. Dates and routes vary from year to year, so check the latest information if you want to plan your trip around the event. The route and the event involve different planning considerations: for the cycling route, the approximate distance and trail conditions matter; for the “Blanický cyklorytíř,” the dates and routes that change each year are the key details.

There are about twelve connections to Vracovice on weekdays. Check the current timetable before travelling.
