Benešov brings together a Gothic monument, art with a regional focus and Konopiště Park. When choosing your destination, it helps to decide in advance what you want to focus on during your stay: should art and the town’s history take centre stage, or would you also like to include Konopiště, with its park, garden and sightseeing routes? The attractions appeal to different interests and offer varied perspectives on culture and nature.

Konopiště: Park, Garden and Sightseeing

A tourist route about 2 km long leads from Benešov to Konopiště. Konopišťský Park is open to the public year-round. The Růžová zahrada at Konopiště features greenhouses with warmth-loving and subtropical plants, a cork pavilion and sculptures. The greenhouses showcase the plant life, while the cork pavilion and sculptures add architectural and artistic touches.

Konopiště also offers four sightseeing routes and additional exhibitions, including “Muzeum sv. Jiří” and “Střelnice”. This adds a distinct range of sightseeing options to the park and garden experience. Year-round access to the park should be distinguished from the sightseeing routes: check their current availability before your visit. Signposting and seasonal transport services may also change, so it is worth checking shortly before planning your trip.

Art from a Regional Perspective

The Muzeum umění a designu Benešov offers a different focus. Its collection centres on Czech artists and designers from the second half of the 20th century to the present, with particular emphasis on regional art. A permanent exhibition of regional art, open to the public, complements the collection; public art workshops are also part of the programme. Check the current exhibition and workshop programme for your travel dates.

Gothic Architectural History and the Garrison

The historical points of interest also differ. The Gothic monument Minoritský klášter Nanebevzetí Panny Marie hosted assemblies in 1451 and 1473; one of them took place in the presence of Queen Johanna. By contrast, the exhibition “Náš pluk” at the Benešov branch of the Muzeum Podblanicka focuses on the Benešov garrison around the turn of the 20th century.

The subjects can also be distinguished by period: the monastery assemblies belong to the 15th century, “Náš pluk” covers the garrison around 1900, and the art collection spans from the second half of the 20th century to the present. This gives you a choice when planning between specific historical events, garrison history and art from the late 20th century onwards.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Priorities

The tourist route from Benešov is about 2 km long, making Konopiště a possible focus of your trip in its own right.
