Votice can be explored through a variety of places: a Jewish cemetery and its museum tell the story of Jewish heritage, while a former Franciscan monastery, a chapel and a church tower add further historical highlights. There is also a viewpoint with an open-air geological exhibition, opportunities for activities and an annual town festival. For your stay, you can then decide which of these aspects of the town you would like to focus on.

Jewish Heritage and Historic Buildings

The Jewish cemetery in Votice preserves 360 gravestones, most of them made of granite. They date from 1705 to the end of the 1930s; the cemetery is maintained. The cemetery’s history also includes its restored ceremonial hall with a mortuary. Built in 1885, it has served as a regional Jewish museum since 2004. Here, the cemetery’s gravestones and the historic hall’s museum use come together.

The cemetery is locked; you can borrow the key from the information centre. Check local key-borrowing arrangements and opening hours before your visit. Another historic destination is the former Franciscan monastery, dating from the 17th century. Guided tours and exhibitions are available there; access is seasonal. The Boží hrob Chapel is one of 27 surviving Holy Sepulchre chapels in the Czech lands. Its interior can be viewed through a wrought-iron grille. The 35-metre-high Václavka lookout tower at Kostel svatého Václava church is also open seasonally.

Views, Geology and Activities

Kamenná vyhlídka is located on Na Hůrkách hill above Votice. From there, the view extends beyond Votice to the more distant hills of Benešovsko and Posázaví. The open-air geological exhibition gives the viewpoint its own theme: rock samples and thin sections are on display. There is also an underground telephone, a stony barefoot path and board games for children. This place thus combines views of the landscape with geological exhibits and other individual attractions.

The first completed section of the Cyklostezka Votickem cycle path, which is now in use, runs from Votice to Olbramovice and is about three kilometres long. Its modern asphalt surface is suitable for cyclists, pedestrians, pushchairs and inline skaters. Another way to explore Votice is the children’s treasure hunt, “Putování po Voticích s knížetem Václavem.” The route is two kilometres long. You can get the game sheet free of charge from the information centre or download it online. The treasure hunt and cycle path are separate activities; their respective route lengths give you a clear point of reference when choosing between them.

Seasonal Events and Planning Your Visit

The Svatováclavské slavnosti Votice takes place once a year for the feast of St Wenceslas. The programme includes a procession through the town, cultural performances, stalls, fairground attractions, and theatre and games for children. The exact dates and programme vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for that year’s event.

In 2026, Motýlárium is closed for operational reasons. If you are considering visiting on a later trip, check in advance whether it has reopened. It is also worth checking visiting arrangements for the desired dates at historic sites that are open seasonally. This will help you plan your stay in Votice around the sights that matter most to you, then look for a hotel in Votice for your trip.
