The confluence of the Želivka and Sázava rivers is a striking landmark in the landscape of Soutice. Other attractions include the Church of St James the Greater, the castle complex, a museum and the Umrlčí cesta, a walking route with places to rest. This gives you a choice of different focuses for your stay: cultural history, landscape and outdoor activities. When choosing accommodation in Soutice, you can plan your leisure time around the interests of your trip.

River Landscape and Events

The traditional Silvestrovský pochod in Soutice leads to the confluence. It was held on 31 December 2018 and 31 December 2025. If you are considering the march as a reason for your trip, check the date for your travel period.

Water is also the subject of the exhibition “Voda Želivka” at the Muzeum Soutice, which traces the journey of drinking water from a reservoir to Prague. Unlike the confluence here, the exhibition follows a much longer route. In Soutice, water is therefore experienced both as a feature of the landscape and as a source of drinking water.

Local History in Many Forms

The Church of St James the Greater was first mentioned in 1363, an early landmark in the town’s history. Soutice Castle is listed as a cultural monument and provides another historical connection. The writer JUDr. Vojtěch Zamarovský is buried in the cemetery in Soutice. Local cultural heritage thus ranges from religious architecture and castle history to literary heritage.

The Muzeum Soutice

The Muzeum Soutice is housed in a reconstructed 18th-century granary, which has been protected as a cultural monument since 29 July 2020. The museum’s location connects the history of a former agricultural building with its cultural use.

Historical photographs, furnishings from the former post office and the municipal chronicle present local history in visual, material and written forms. A description from 2026 lists the castle’s owners and Ema Destinnová as subjects of the castle exhibition; exhibition content may change.

The Muzeum Soutice also displays a fired brick bearing the coat of arms of the Zahn family, from Soutice’s former brickworks. Check before your visit whether the item is on display at that time.

The Umrlčí cesta and Places to Rest

For outdoor activity, there is the Umrlčí cesta, restored in 2017. The route has four places to rest with seating: Kukátko, Okno do duše a krajiny, Zvonička and Svatá trojice. At the start of the Umrlčí cesta, near the D1 access road, there is wooden furniture and an information board; these are intended for resting and refreshments. This means there are places to rest both at the start and at the route’s named stops.

The attractions offer different ways to plan your leisure time: the museum combines local history with exhibitions on castle and water-related themes, while the Umrlčí cesta focuses on walking and places to rest. The confluence is a distinct landmark in the landscape. You can decide whether cultural history, a walk or the river landscape should be the focus of your stay.
