Slapy-Nedvezi appeals to travelers who want to discover historic buildings and a rural setting. Tvrz Nedvězí and Grand Farma Michael offer different points of interest: the Old Farmstead preserves Romanesque-Gothic remains, while the farm offers horse-riding activities. Access is an important part of planning. Grand Farma Michael is not normally open to the public; visits are possible when a public event is taking place. Check access for your preferred date rather than assuming you can drop by the farm.
Tvrz Nedvězí and its architectural history
Tvrz Nedvězí is an architectural complex whose individual buildings have retained their authentic medieval character. In the so-called Old Farmstead, Romanesque-Gothic remains survive in cellars beneath newer buildings. This means characteristic buildings and older structural remains sit alongside one another in different parts of the complex. The Tvrz complex, along with the farm buildings and their surroundings, was reconstructed in 1995 and 1996; an organic farm was also established. This reconstruction represents a later historical phase, which can be distinguished from the Romanesque-Gothic dating of the cellar remains. Visitors interested in architecture can thus consider both the character of individual buildings and the development of the complex.
Horse riding and events
Grand Farma Michael offers rides in English and Western styles year-round. Availability should be confirmed before your trip. Children can take rides in the area around the farm accompanied by an experienced guide, or train on the lunge; these arrangements should also be agreed in advance. For planning purposes, these are two different options: a guided ride in the surrounding area or lunge training.
During Easter weekend 2026, Grand Farma Michael held traditional Easter workshops for children and adults, including making Easter wreaths. For later dates, check the relevant event program.
Access to the Tvrz
The approach to Tvrz Nedvězí runs between enclosures holding Aberdeen Angus cattle, sheep, and horses. The route gives a clear sense of the farm setting and its livestock, while also leading to the historic building complex.
Views of the Slapská Reservoir
Rabyňská vyhlídka is near Nová Rabyně and offers views of the Slapská Reservoir; refreshments are also available there. The Slapská Reservoir lies about 40 kilometers south of Prague on the Vltava River, at the site of the former Svatojánské proudy.
When looking for accommodation, it helps to decide on your specific reason for visiting first: a farm visit depends on a public event, while a ride depends on confirmed availability. Once the date of your planned activity is clear, arrange your accommodation around it. This way, your travel dates are based on what you actually want to do.
