Discover Drachkov through its architectural history, remembrance and walking routes. Local landmarks include the Špejchar, the war memorial with its commemorative plaque, a chapel at the edge of the village, and paths towards Tožice and Bystřice. When looking for a holiday apartment in Drachkov, you can first consider whether you would particularly like to learn about the village’s history or include walks in your stay. The following places and routes offer different ways to do so.
The Špejchar: architecture and history
The Špejchar in Drachkov is a massive three-storey building on the corner of the manor farm. Built as a tax granary, it was constructed from the remains of the original fortress. Its location on the manor farm and distinctive architecture are as much a part of its description as its origins in the fortress ruins. The granary thus combines a specific architectural form with a far-reaching part of the village’s history.
A later episode came in 2012, when the Špejchar was threatened with being sold by the town of Bystřice. A petition and the local association Špejchar Drachkov, z. s., saved the building. The year refers to its rescue, not to the granary’s construction. Two different periods therefore come together: its origins in the remains of the fortress and the community’s efforts to save the building in 2012.
Commemorative plaque and chapel
The war memorial in Drachkov includes a commemorative plaque to the victims who were tortured by the Nazis during the Second World War. It gives the memorial a specific connection to remembrance. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk also stands at the edge of Drachkov, towards Tožice. Its location on the outskirts provides a different point of reference from the memorial. Together, the two structures point to different aspects of the village: remembrance and Drachkov’s position at the transition towards Tožice.
Stream and walks
The Zahořanský potok is a defining feature of Drachkov’s setting: the village extends for about one kilometre along both banks of the stream. In Drachkov, the Zahořanský potok flows through the Lískovec pond. The stream and pond together are among the features that describe the village’s landscape; the approximate length also indicates how far the village extends along the water.
The walk from Tožice to Drachkov heads west from the church, passing the cemetery. On a walk from Drachkov to Bystřice, you can return via Zahořany; the shorter return route is via Nesvačily. This information helps with different aspects of planning: for the walk from Tožice, the starting point and route are specified, while the walk to Bystřice offers two return options. If you are looking for the shorter of the two, you can consider the route via Nesvačily.
Sports and events
The TJ Sokol Drachkov football stadium is also part of village life today: it is currently used for sporting and cultural events. So, alongside architectural history and remembrance, Drachkov’s character also includes a venue for current events. Culture and sport are further aspects of the village.
