The Church of St. Vitus combines early Gothic elements with later Gothic, Baroque and modern alterations. In Radošovice, a Baroque statue in the village square and specific cycling connections add to this cultural and historical setting.

Church of St. Vitus: Location and Architecture

The church stands in the eastern part of Radošovice, on the village-square side, on a gentle rise. It is situated in the middle of a disused cemetery surrounded by a stone wall. The church grounds include a terraced stone wall. Its location on the village-square side, the rise and the former cemetery grounds describe the site from different perspectives: in relation to the village square, topographically and in connection with the former cemetery.

The church has an early Gothic presbytery and a partially early Gothic nave. Later alterations were made in the Gothic, Baroque and modern periods. The rectangular presbytery contains a Gothic cross-ribbed vault. The presbytery is the choir area, while the nave is the main lengthwise section of the building. The early Gothic character therefore does not apply equally to every part of the structure; later alterations add further building phases to the early features. A cross-ribbed vault is a type of vault with intersecting ribs, adding a specific architectural detail to the chronological picture.

A Monument in the Village Square

A Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the village square. It dates approximately from the late 18th century. Alongside the church’s multi-phase building history, the monument provides a single, approximately dated historical reference point. Thus, a Baroque work of art and a church building with several phases of alteration stand side by side in the village square as distinct historical points of reference.
