Architecture from the Middle Ages to the Baroque

Neveklov offers several specific ways to explore the town’s history: medieval and Baroque architecture, Jewish heritage, exhibitions and a well-known cycling route. This means that planning a trip is not limited to a single sightseeing focus. Instead, you can decide whether architectural history, Jewish history or cycling will shape your stay. For the Jewish cemetery, checking access in advance is part of the planning.

St. Havel’s Church probably already existed in the 13th century; its masonry is likely largely Gothic. Architectural elements from the 13th and 14th centuries are also built into the surrounding wall. This brings different historical periods together in one structure: the church’s presumed early origins, the classification of its masonry and individual elements in the wall. If you are interested in architectural history, you can consider these details separately rather than attributing a single construction date to the entire church.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary offers a different architectural note: this small Baroque building dates from 1700 and opens onto four arcades. Unlike St. Havel’s Church, whose early origins are probable, the chapel has a definite date. The arcades provide another specific feature for comparing architectural forms.

Jewish Heritage and Visit Planning

About 160 gravestones remain at Neveklov’s Jewish cemetery. The cemetery is locked; a key can be borrowed from the cashier’s desk at the town hall. Check locally whether a key is currently available before your visit, rather than planning on the cemetery as a stop you can access spontaneously. The synagogue is an unadorned building on the south side of Táborská Street, east of the square, and currently requires major repairs. The cemetery and synagogue offer different points of interest: the former is notable for its surviving gravestones and access that must be arranged in advance; the latter for its location and the repairs it needs.

Exhibitions and Exploring

The information centre adds a perspective on visual art to the architectural sights. An exhibition of paintings by local painter and graphic artist Miroslav Mašek has been on display there for several years; additional exhibitions are also held throughout the year. Neveklov can be explored with the Smartguide audio guide. The exhibitions and audio guide thus offer further cultural ways to discover the town, alongside its buildings.

Cycling Route and Castle Park

Neveklov lies along the well-known Greenways Praha–Vídeň cycling route. If you plan to include the route in your trip, check the current route signage before setting off, as names may change. The castle park in the Tloskov district is freely accessible; check access before your visit.
