Chářovice is well suited to excursions and walks in peaceful rural surroundings. Fields, forests, gentle valleys and ponds shape the landscape; in the village, a stone bell tower, a chapel and a war memorial offer tangible connections to local history. The story of a forced resettlement during the Second World War adds another chapter. You can therefore treat nature and culture as distinct focuses for your stay.

Landscape and Walks

The surrounding area offers a varied mix of fields, forests, gentle valleys and ponds. If you want to focus on the landscape during your stay, you will find a rural setting here that is expressly suited to excursions and walks. Chářovický potok rises about 300 metres south of Chářovice, adding a specific local waterway to the picture.

Significant ornithological observations have been recorded at Velký Chlebský rybník in the Chářovice area, including observations of specially protected animal species. For nature enthusiasts, this is another distinct aspect of the surroundings: the stream and the observations at the pond offer different points of interest in natural history. The landscape, walking opportunities and birdwatching thus provide a range of themes around which to plan your stay.

At the 49th edition of the Pochod Posázavím in 2025, a 14-kilometre route ran from Týnec nad Sázavou via Chářovice, Chrášťany, Václavice and Hrusice, and then via Krušičany back to Týnec nad Sázavou. The distance applies to that edition. If you are interested in taking part in a current event, please check the event details.

Buildings, Remembrance and Local History

A stone bell tower stands in Chářovice Park. The Chapel of St John is one of the village’s regionally and locally significant cultural monuments. The war memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War and Jaroslav Piát, the local police officer. Piát lost his life on 5 May 1945 during the liberation of Prague. The village’s buildings and specific historical memories are therefore both part of its character.

The village’s history also includes military use during the Second World War: Chářovice became part of the Waffen-SS Benešov military training area. The residents had to leave their homes on 1 April 1943. This historical experience adds another defining chapter to the story of Chářovice, alongside the bell tower, chapel and war memorial.
