Neustupov Château combines a Renaissance building with preserved parts of an older fortress. Other sights include the protected Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a chapel on the market square and the Jewish cemetery northwest of the town. The valley landscape and cycle route 0042, which passes through Neustupov, add both a scenic perspective and a wider regional dimension to the cultural attractions.
Neustupov Château and its architectural history
The château is a two-winged Renaissance building. An arcade is located in the entrance wing, and a polygonal corner tower was added later. Remains of Renaissance sgraffito have been preserved on the exterior façades. The entrance hall, by contrast, belongs to the original 12th-century Gothic fortress. Parts of this older structure also survive in the east wing: the ground floor, part of the first floor and several portals. The château therefore reveals distinct building phases, while the surviving parts of the fortress remain distinct from the later Renaissance building.
Church, chapel and ancient linden tree
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Neustupov is protected as a cultural monument. Another historic site is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, built in 1852 at the upper corner of Neustupov’s market square. Next to the château stands the Kaplířova linden, which is more than 600 years old. The church, chapel and linden each make their own contribution, from a protected religious building to a structure with a precise construction date and an old tree beside the château.
Jewish cemetery northwest of the town
The Jewish cemetery lies about 1 km northwest of Neustupov, among fields. Around 200 gravestones and a reconstructed mortuary have been preserved there. The cemetery is freely accessible. Its location sets it apart from the buildings mentioned in the town and makes it a destination in its own right. If you plan to visit the cemetery, check during your visit whether the access arrangements have changed.
Valley landscape, cycle route and road directions
Neustupov lies in a valley landscape surrounded by forests, hills, ponds and fertile fields. For cyclists, route 0042 offers a specific point of reference: it passes through Neustupov on the Sedlec-Prčice–Heřmaničky–Oldřichovec–Neustupov–Jankov route. The information thus identifies both a route through the town and its other stops.
The town’s road connections can also be described in general terms: Neustupov is about 3 km from the Benešov–Tábor main road, in the direction of Mladá Vožice. This is a different point of reference from the cycle route that passes through Neustupov. Taken together, the information about the town, landscape and routes offers different starting points for planning a stay according to your interests—with architectural history in town, a cemetery among the fields or a cycling route through Neustupov.
