A covered seating area on the 519.6-metre-high Krásná Hora and cycling route 0068 give Petroupim two very different points of interest: a mountain to head for on a walk and a route that passes through the village. There are also marked hiking trails and local traces of culture. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether trails, landscape or local history will be your main focus.
By bike or on foot
Cycling route 0068 runs from Okrouhlice in the south to Soběhrdy and passes through Petroupim. It follows a road designated for this purpose, away from heavily trafficked routes. If you would like to include a connection between places in your trip, Okrouhlice in the south and Soběhrdy are the endpoints to use as reference points. The route therefore offers both a clearly named connection and a specific course through Petroupim.
Marked hiking trails also pass through the area. One hiking route runs from Chocerady via Bělčice and Kozmice to Benešov, also passing through Petroupim. Here, a sequence of place names provides orientation, while the cycling route has a number. So, if you are choosing between cycling and walking, both the means of travel and the way of finding your bearings differ: on one hand, cycling route 0068; on the other, the sequence of places named above.
Landscape and Krásná Hora
The landscape offers two distinct points of interest: the wooded northern part of Petroupim’s area is of high scenic value, as are the floodplains of the streams to the south. The contrast between woodland in the north and stream floodplains in the south adds another question to consider when planning your visit: which of these landscape types would you particularly like to explore?
Krásná Hora is a specific destination for walks. The 519.6-metre-high mountain lies within the cadastral area of the municipality of Petroupim, surrounded by a spruce forest. There is a covered seating area where you can rest. Krásná Hora is also the destination of a traditional New Year’s ascent. The mountain thus combines a walking destination with a recurring local tradition. The stone Konírna F. F. d‘ Este also stands on Krásná Hora and is one of Petroupim’s local monuments.
Monuments and local history
An old cross stands at the intersection of field paths and footpaths leading to Petroupim. Together with the Konírna on Krásná Hora, these are two cultural traces with different settings: one at a path junction, the other on a mountain. The monuments can therefore be distinguished not just as a list, but also by their respective relationship to the landscape.
Petroupim was first mentioned in writing in 1318; at that time, the knight Beneš of Petroupim lived there. A much later date relates to the former school building: it was formally opened and consecrated on 1 April 1912. The two dates represent different historical layers: 1318 concerns the mention of the village, while 1912 marks a specific event in the history of a building.
