Around 40 percent of the Municipality of Lipovljani lies within Lonjsko polje Nature Park. Lipovljani, Piljenice and Kraljeva Velika form the northern entrance zone to the nature park. The attractions are spread across several places and different types of routes: from the centre of Lipovljani through forest and along the river to rural architecture and historic mills.

Hiking trails through the town, forest and river landscape

The “Lipa” hiking route runs through the centre of Lipovljani and past the town’s main sights and points of interest. It is 5.5 kilometres long and takes around one hour and ten minutes. Its focus is therefore on the town centre and its sights.

Teninas staza offers a different experience: this very easy, circular forest trail is located in Lonjsko polje Nature Park near Piljenice. Check current trail conditions before your visit. In contrast to the route through the town centre, this trail focuses on walking in the forest.

“Slikovite Piljenice” runs through Piljenice along the Pakra River, passing picturesque rural architecture and historic mills. This route combines a riverside walk with glimpses of local building styles and milling traditions. The three hiking trails offer different points of interest: sights in the town centre, a circular forest trail and architecture along the Pakra.

A longer loop and places to stop

The “Kraljeva ruta” can be explored by bike as a 30-kilometre circular route linking Lipovljani, Piljenice and Kraljeva Velika. This offers two different scales: the 5.5-kilometre hiking route through Lipovljani and a longer cycling route that connects three settlements in a loop. If you want to explore the town centre in particular, the “Lipa” follows a different route from the “Kraljeva ruta”.

Piljenice has a public tourist rest area with benches and an information board. In Kraljeva Velika, Jame Gradine is a developed fishing and excursion area: anglers use it, and nature lovers can find a place to rest there. These rest areas and fishing grounds complement the hiking and cycling trails with more ways to explore the settlements and their surroundings.

Architecture, collections and milling traditions

The Church of St. Joseph, built in 1772 and featuring late Baroque elements, stands in Lipovljani. The Slovak Ethno House on Željanska ulica houses an extensive ethnographic museum collection and serves as a venue for numerous events organised by the Slovak minority. The Toš Mill in Piljenice bears witness to the town’s former milling traditions. Together, these places reveal different facets of the local heritage: sacred architecture, an ethnographic collection and the history of milling.

Two annual festivals, two locations

“Antunovo u Kraljevoj Velikoj” takes place every year on 13 June to mark the feast of St. Anthony. The traditional folk festival includes a cultural, entertainment and sports programme. After the mass, a traditional Muntă takes place—a kind of auction of local livestock, usually attended by local residents and other visitors. The programme may vary; alongside the other events, the mass and Muntă give the festival its distinctive character.

The “Lipovljanski susreti” takes place every year on the last weekend of August in the centre of Lipovljani; the tradition dates back to 1974. A large ethno-gastronomic market featuring traditional food is part of the festival in the central park. Alongside the June festival in Kraljeva Velika, this means a difference in both location and timing: Antunovo on 13 June and the “Lipovljanski susreti” on the last weekend of August. If you are planning your trip around one of the festivals, check the specific event dates.
