A flower-shaped monument offers a tangible way to engage with history in the Municipality of Jasenovac: Bogdan Bogdanović designed it, and it was erected in 1966 on the site of the former Camp III Brickworks. Memorial sites in Jasenovac and Uštica add other places of remembrance to this perspective. At the same time, Krapje reveals another side of the municipality through its architectural heritage and collections.
Memorial Sites in Jasenovac and Uštica
The permanent exhibition at the Jasenovac Memorial Museum focuses on individual life stories, set in the context of mass crimes. The museum also preserves and presents materials about the Jasenovac camp and its prisoners. Its activities include working with survivors, projects involving exhibitions and publications, and commemorative events honoring the victims of Jasenovac.
The sites themselves also help orient visitors: authentic buildings of the Ustaše camp’s Kožara labor group have been preserved in Jasenovac. Veliki nasip, also known as Nasip smrti, forms the eastern boundary of the Jasenovac Memorial Area. A notice from the Memorial Museum dated June 24, 2026, stated that visits could continue during restoration work according to regular opening hours and the group registration procedure. Check the current visiting arrangements before your trip.
Uštica lies between the Sava and Una rivers and was the site of a Ustaše camp for Roma from 1942 to 1945. The Roma cemetery in Uštica contains 21 graves and covers a total area of 4,292 square meters. These details of place make another part of local history tangible.
Krapje: Village of Architectural Heritage
Krapje is a village of architectural heritage and a rural ensemble of international significance. Its traditional vernacular architecture is listed in the Register of Cultural Properties. Since it received the title of Village of Architectural Heritage in 1995, Architectural Heritage Day has traditionally been held every September. If you plan to attend, check the dates for your trip.
The Ethnological Collection of the Palaić family offers another perspective on the village. It comprises more than 170 objects, mainly textiles, wood, and ceramics, and illustrates the way of life, clothing, livelihoods, knowledge, and skills of a typical family in Krapje. Most of the objects are housed in a traditional two-storey wooden house built in the Posavina architectural style. The collection thus spans objects and clothing as well as the activities and everyday skills of daily life.
Trails, Observation and Water

Cycling offers another option whose length is easy to assess: the 77.8-kilometre Posavska cycling route passes through Krapje and Jasenovac. Check local conditions before cycling. In the wider destination of Sisak-Moslavina County, Lonjsko polje Nature Park also offers a guided 32-kilometre route from the Krapje Visitor Centre through Mužilovčica to Čigoč. It is intended for groups of 10 to 25 people; tasting traditional products at a farm is possible by prior arrangement.
