A clear introduction to Jiamusi’s cultural side is Youfang Hutong: its history dates back to 1931, while the city’s parks each have a different focus. This makes it easy to distinguish historical and cultural themes from the landscapes and recreational offerings of the green spaces.
Youfang Hutong: History and Intangible Cultural Heritage
Youfang Hutong was established in 1931 and named after an oil mill that once operated there. It is located in Xiangyang District and is a national tourism and leisure area. It is also the first district established by Jiamusi for intangible cultural heritage. The dates mark different chapters: 1931 represents the neighborhood’s origins and name, while the state-led redevelopment in 2021 marks its more recent development. This was followed by the creation of a city venue for visitors and social gatherings, featuring intangible cultural heritage, regional specialties, and a night-time economy. The specific cultural and dining offerings may continue to evolve.
The dining scene includes a pedestrian food street with selected food projects. Individual vendors and offerings may change. This adds a culinary focus to the Hutong’s historical significance without losing sight of the neighborhood’s history.
City Parks with Different Focuses
Water-Source Mountain Park is in the southeastern part of the urban area, about 3 kilometers from the central square. Its total area is 64 hectares, with a planned area of 54 hectares. The park is classified as an AAA tourism area. Its main focus is showcasing wild animals, while recreation and entertainment are complementary functions. If you are choosing a park based mainly on its focus, this makes it clearly distinct from the landscape and recreational offerings of the other parks described here.
Sifeng Mountain Scenic Tourism Area is in the southwestern part of the urban area, about 6 kilometers from the city center. It combines flood control and irrigation with tourism and parkland. Its 360 hectares include 261 hectares of water, and forest cover is as high as 80 percent. The area and forest figures may change gradually. Four connected basalt peaks define the area. It is suitable for recreation and physical activity for people of different ages. Alongside its parkland, the area is also defined by its water and the geological formations of its peaks.
In the northern part of the urban area, Alongjiang Park, a national AAA tourism area, stretches 6.2 kilometers from west to east. It covers 89 hectares. It is divided into ecological wetland, cultural recreation, and quiet leisure areas; this layout may be updated. These three designated areas give the park a different profile from Sifeng, with its combination of water, forest, and multiple functions. For choosing between them, their respective focuses may therefore be more useful than a simple comparison of their area.
A Destination Outside the Urban Area
There is also another cultural and water-related attraction near Jiamusi: Aoqi Bay Hezhen Tourism Area is in Aoqi Town, around 22 kilometers from the city. It has areas for water activities and cultural presentations. This sets it apart geographically from the parks within the urban area. If you would like to explore Jiamusi and its surroundings together, this destination offers another option, without being mistaken for one of the city’s parks.
