In Stayner, short walking paths, longer trails, parks and local history come together. When planning a stay, it makes a difference whether you are looking for an easy trail with a storytelling theme, want to spend time outdoors or prefer a longer route. The historic downtown and seasonal events also offer reasons to get to know Stayner from more than one perspective.

Trails by length and character

The Clearview Story Book Trail is an easy, 250-metre walking path with twelve storyboards. They combine physical activity with a narrated children’s story and an outdoor learning experience. This makes the trail quite different from the Clearview EcoPark Loop, which is 5.5 kilometres long and rated easy to moderate. It can be accessed from Scott Street and Weir Street in Stayner. The loop is suitable for walking, cycling, geocaching and birdwatching.

The lengths and difficulty ratings provide a practical guide for choosing: the Story Book Trail is the shorter, easy option; the EcoPark Loop is longer and, according to its stated difficulty rating, ranges up to moderate. The Clearview Collingwood Train Trail is on a different scale. This 14-kilometre linear gravel trail runs from Collingwood to Stayner. Its length, surface and route format set it apart from the two shorter trails in Stayner.

Seasonal access should be taken into account for the Story Book Trail. Check access conditions before your visit. This helps you choose a trail based on its length and character without assuming that all trails require the same amount of time.

Parks with different features

The parks also have different features. Centennial Park offers plenty of green space and play equipment. Ives Park has a large softball field, tennis courts, play structures and swings. Visitors looking to compare sports and play options will find a different combination here than at Centennial Park.

Legion Park explicitly identifies age groups: it has swings for toddlers and babies, slides and climbing structures. The ball field is intended for children up to age twelve. This age specification applies to the ball field; the other facilities listed are separate from it. The three parks add different ways to spend time outdoors to Stayner’s offerings, without having the same amenities.

Local history and visitor information

Fountain Park combines flowers and benches with a plaque commemorating the founding of Stayner. The downtown offers a broader historical context: Stayner has a historic downtown with well-preserved buildings from the Edwardian era. The Stayner Heritage Society supports projects that preserve and celebrate the community’s distinctive heritage.

The Stayner Heritage Society Museum is located in the Tourism Information & Heritage Centre in Stayner. From June through August, volunteers are on site on Thursdays between 4 and 8 p.m. The centre also offers visitors local maps, brochures and personal recommendations. The centre and its services are seasonal; hours may change. Check the hours before travelling if you want to plan your visit or get your bearings locally around them.

Seasonal events

Music, Market and Park It in downtown Stayner brings together farmers, producers, food vendors, wineries, artisans and local community partners. The programme includes a classic car show and activities for children. The seasonal event programme may change. If you want to plan your trip around this event, check the dates and current programme in advance.

The different features can help you choose a place to stay as you plan your trip: shorter or longer trails, park amenities, local history or an event. First consider what you would like to experience in Stayner, then tailor your search for a hotel in Stayner to that travel interest.
