30 kilometres of cross-country ski trails for classic skiing and skating give Duntroon a distinct outdoor focus. There is also a nature reserve with cliff and gorge habitats, marked trails and historic sites. Cross-country skiing and disc golf are available at Highlands Nordic, while Islay Park and Duntroon Hall offer a glimpse into the area’s history.

Cross-Country Skiing, Disc Golf and Changing Hours

Highlands Nordic has 30 kilometres of trails for classic cross-country skiing and skating. A 3-kilometre dog-friendly ski trail is also available. The rental shop carries boots, skis and poles for both styles. If you plan to use specific equipment, check current availability before travelling, as stock may change.

The 18-hole disc golf course is open daily from 9 a.m. until sunset; as operating information may change, check before your visit. Night skiing is offered on select evenings. Dates are seasonal, so it’s worth checking the schedule before travelling. The offerings therefore differ in their timing: a stated daily opening time contrasts with seasonal evenings.

Nature and Marked Trails

Nottawasaga Lookout Provincial Nature Reserve features representative cliff and gorge habitats of the Niagara Escarpment, forested slopes, wetlands, talus slopes, and cave and crevice formations. The Bruce Trail runs through the reserve and offers opportunities for hiking and nature observation.

Duntroon Highlands has 15 kilometres of marked trails through open areas and deciduous forests. The nature experiences are distinguished by their points of reference: the reserve focuses on habitats and the route of the Bruce Trail, while Duntroon Highlands specifies the trails’ length, markings and landscape.

Islay Park and Duntroon Hall

Historic Islay Park in Duntroon was established in 1934 and now has playground equipment and a large green space. Park facilities may change, so check current conditions before your visit. Duntroon Hall, a former military drill hall, was rebuilt at the edge of five-acre Islay Park.

Trails and Regional Experiences Nearby

Nearby, above Duntroon, is the Highlands Art & Tree Trail. The 2-kilometre loop opened in 2025. Its concept includes five local artists and several tree installations; the installations may evolve over time.

Near Duntroon, Duntroon Cyder House offers local products and a tasting area where visitors can enjoy them. In the wider South Georgian Bay region, the Apple Pie Trail is a culinary experience trail. It connects culinary offerings, shopping, adventure, farms and other local experiences.
