Creemore brings together architectural history, village life and nature trails. The jail and Log Cabin offer two historical points of interest, while self-guided Historic Plaques make it easy to explore the village on foot. The weekly market, outdoor events and Creemore Nature Reserve add further highlights to your stay.

History in the Village

Creemore’s jail was built in 1892 for 425.20 Canadian dollars. Its three-cell structure is considered the smallest of its kind in Ontario and possibly all of North America. The jail is open to the public daily from May to October. Since dates may change, check the current opening days before your visit.

The Creemore Log Cabin is the last surviving log-cabin residence in Creemore. The building dates from the 1870s and was relocated as a heritage-designated building in 2011. It serves as a venue for cultural exhibits and programs. History interpreters welcome visitors there on Saturday mornings from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving. If you plan to visit for historical interpretation, keep this seasonal time frame in mind.

The two buildings offer different historical highlights: the jail is a three-cell structure, while the Log Cabin is a log-cabin residence. Their timelines also differ: the jail was built in 1892, while the Cabin dates from the 1870s and was relocated in 2011. Together, they highlight two types of architecture and their respective histories.

Market and Events

Creemore Village Green is located in the heart of the village on Mill Street, Creemore’s main business district. Since opening in August 2022, it has brought together residents and visitors of all ages for festivals and events such as the Summer Equinox, the Harvest Festival, the Christmas Tree Lighting and the Sundays in the Park concert series; it is also a place for informal gatherings. This outdoor venue hosts concerts, theatre performances, festivals, markets, weddings and other special events. Since the program may change, check the dates for your travel period.

The Creemore Farmers’ & Craft Market takes place every Saturday, rain or shine, except in the event of lightning or other severe storms. It is held in the parking lot next to the Station on the Green in Creemore. The market is for makers, growers and producers. Applicants must grow or make all the products they sell there—a clear focus on producers that sets the market apart from a general sales market. Since the weekly schedule may change, check the market day before you travel.

Walking Tour and Nature Trails

The Creemore Historic Plaques offer a self-guided walking tour of Creemore. One historical plaque in the village is included in the Ontario Champlain Scenic Route. For nature trails, Creemore Nature Reserve has 5.5 kilometres of trails open to the public. The options have different focuses: a walking tour featuring local history or trails in the nature reserve.
