Arda brings together cultural and historical themes, activities in the village, and an excursion into the surrounding landscape: Arda is associated with a Thracian sanctuary near Rasiltsa and two churches dating from 882; nearby, a marked trail leads to the source of the Arda. This makes it possible to plan village-related visits and a specific hike as separate highlights.

Culture and Activities in Arda

The sanctuary near Rasiltsa is described as at least 2,500 years old. Two churches were built in 882. A map of the Balkans has been preserved in St. Nicholas Church. Together, these landmarks offer different historical perspectives: a Thracian place of worship, church architecture, and a surviving map.

Activities in Arda include cycling and horse-riding tourism, a ski lift, the Tarzan's Garden rope park, and rock climbing on a cliff beside a church. The activities range from cycling and horse-riding tours to options at the ski lift, in the rope park, and on the cliff. The location for climbing is also specifically described: a cliff beside a church.

Hike to the Source of the Arda

The marked trail to the source begins in the hamlet of Bilyanska; the walk to the source is about 3 kilometres long. It passes through expansive meadows, deciduous and coniferous forests, gorges, and slopes, and is described as offering panoramic views. The open meadows alternate with wooded sections and varied terrain. At the source, the marked trail continues to Ardin Peak, a 1,730-metre summit on the Bulgarian-Greek border. The source and the summit are therefore separate destinations along the marked trail.

There are picnic facilities at the source, including fire pits, pavilions, and a shelter. Vehicles with high ground clearance can reach the start of the walking trail. The Dyadova Ryaka complex is also located along the route, where you can try trout and other dishes, described as organically clean. So, in addition to the hike, the route also offers options for a picnic or a meal.

Orientation and Route Planning

The Arda Tourist Information Centre provides information about self-guided hikes and routes, as well as rural guesthouses assigned to different categories. You can also get equipment there and access routes with mountain and tour guides. When planning, you can choose between self-guided trails and routes with a guide; information about rural guesthouses also helps with accommodation planning.

A 2024 programme by the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS) describes Arda as an overnight base on Route 303. After a visit to Uhlovitsa Cave, the itinerary continues to Arda; after a full-day hike from Mogilitsa, it returns there. The itinerary also includes a meadow walk through Gudevitsa and Gozdevitsa with an outdoor lunch, as well as a walk along the Arda and a visit to Tipets Cave, each followed by a return to Arda.
