Agushevi Konatsi, two eco-trails with different layouts and the Vurhat viewpoint give Mogilitsa clear starting points for culture and outdoor activities. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around whichever of these themes you want to focus on. For the routes, you can compare their length, course and named waypoints; Vurhat can be reached by hiking trail or Jeep.

Agushevi Konatsi: Architectural History in Numbers

Agushevi Konatsi is in Mogilitsa. The complex was built between 1820 and 1840 and has 221 windows, 86 doors and 24 chimneys. The figures show that it has considerably more windows than doors; the chimneys are another distinctive architectural feature. The construction period places the complex in its historical context, while the figures make specific aspects of its architecture tangible.

Two Eco-Trails, Two Types of Route

A 12.77-kilometre eco-trail in Mogilitsa passes Borikovska Cave and Tipitseto Cave before reaching Sredok, a hamlet. The second route is a 3-kilometre circular trail: it passes the Padala site, a mineral spring and Bukata before returning to Mogilitsa. The trails therefore differ not only in length: the longer one ends in Sredok, while the shorter one returns to Mogilitsa. Route conditions may change seasonally; check them before setting out.

Vurhat: Views and Access

The Vurhat panoramic viewpoint is near Mogilitsa, at 1,351 metres above sea level, and offers views towards Mogilitsa. It opened in 2020. The hiking trail starts at Shirok Most, at the turn-off to Borikovo when leaving Mogilitsa. Jeeps can be rented in the centre of Mogilitsa for off-road access to Vurhat. Physical access may vary seasonally; weather and forestry conditions can affect the hiking trail. Confirm Jeep availability and operating arrangements locally.

Cave, Fortress and Other Activities

Uhlovitsa Cave is 3 kilometres northeast of Mogilitsa. Its dendritic formations resemble sea coral, offering a different focus from the architectural history and hiking trails. Varad Fortress has historical and scenic interest: it was used by Thracians, Byzantines and Bulgarians in different periods. In clear weather, views from the fortress extend to the Greek mountains of Bozdak and Kushnitsa. Other activities in Mogilitsa include mountain hiking, cycling routes, horse riding, off-road tourism and archery.

Local Information

As of 23 November 2014, the tourist information centre in Mogilitsa provided information about tourism opportunities in the area. Its offerings at the time included authentic Rhodope crafts and souvenirs for purchase, as well as visitor equipment. If you’re planning to use a particular service or equipment, confirm its current availability locally in advance. If you have a particular souvenir in mind, it is also worth asking about current stock.
