The museum collection was transformed into the Museum of Rhodope Karst in 1980; the museum is part of Bulgaria’s national museum network. It is considered the only museum of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula. Its scope therefore extends beyond a single cave or find: it explores karst and speleology in a regional and national context.
