A route described to Dryanovo Monastery includes Peyna and is associated with the group of Pop Hariton and Bacho Kiro. This gives the area a historical connection to help with trip planning, as well as a holiday complex where you can stay overnight. Other points of interest range from ancient and church heritage to cycling routes and nature.

Staying in Peyna

The Old Bulgarian Holiday Complex “Peyna” comprises the “Peyna” complex and the “Chernitsata” house. The complex is accessible by car. Peyna Guest House has a fully equipped kitchen, heating, a private bathroom, a television, a terrace and a refrigerator. Check these amenities before booking.

The holiday complex is near the ancient Roman marketplace of Diskoduratera, whose remains are still visible. Diskoduratera was declared a cultural monument of national importance in 1967. This links your accommodation plans to a tangible witness to ancient history.

Route and Cultural Heritage

Dryanovo Monastery is one of Bulgaria’s 100 national tourist sites. Together with the route that includes Peyna and is associated with the group of Pop Hariton and Bacho Kiro, it provides a cultural and historical focus for your trip planning.

The active Church of St. Nicholas also offers several historical points of interest: it is designated a national cultural monument and was restored in 2000. It was built in 1851 on the foundations of an older church. It is considered Kolyu Ficheto’s first attempt to develop his own style. The wall paintings date from 1926; three icons on the iconostasis were created by Stanislav Dospevski. Check local access and opening arrangements before visiting.

The ethnographic collection “Rural Life in the Dryanovo Region” in Zaya offers another perspective on everyday history. Established in 2010, it presents domestic life, a hearth, clothing, women’s and men’s crafts, and agriculture. The collection is listed as open; confirm visiting arrangements in advance.

Nature, Views and Activities

Bacho Kiro Cave has been designated a natural monument since 1962. In the Via Ferrata area around Dryanovo Monastery, climbing using alpine single-rope techniques is set against the landscape; the cliffs reach heights of up to 80 metres. Species found in the area include Degenov’s dill and cyclamen, as well as around twelve species of bats, mouflons, foxes, roe deer and fire salamanders.

The Dryanovo Eco Trail offers three viewpoints near Boruna Fortress, with panoramic views towards Dryanovo Monastery. However, the trail’s wooden bridges and stairs are currently impassable. Check conditions before planning your route.

For cycling, there is a 10-kilometre route from Dryanovo via Tsareva Livada and Docha to the Strinava Plateau and Dryanovo Monastery. Find out about route conditions and guide arrangements before planning. The different points of interest—from historic buildings to nature and activities—give you practical ways to tailor your trip to your own interests.
