Katrandzhii is a stop on the Dryanovo–Manoya–Dryanovo bus route listed by the Municipality of Dryanovo. Check the current timetable before travelling. The other excursion destinations presented here are in the wider region. For your travel planning, it helps to separate your journey to Katrandzhii from your choice of excursion: options include cycling routes with specified distances, cultural attractions and tourist trails. This way, you can first plan your journey and then decide how you would like to spend your time in the region.

Cycling routes to Dryanovo Monastery

The Municipality of Dryanovo lists three cycling routes. The 6 km route runs from Dryanovo via the Tsinga neighbourhood to Dryanovo Monastery. A 10 km route goes via Tsareva Livada, Docha and the Strinava Plateau to the monastery. The 30 km route runs via Denchevtsi, Chukovo, Gostilitsa, Skalsko and Gesha, returning to Dryanovo and the monastery. The 6 km route is the shortest, while the 30 km route is the longest; the longest route passes through several villages on its way back to Dryanovo and the monastery. All three cycling routes therefore have the same stated destination. You can consider the distance and route when choosing.

Culture between the monastery and the cave

Dryanovo Monastery “St. Archangel Michael” is one of Bulgaria’s 100 national tourist sites and is the destination of all three cycling routes mentioned. The cultural route “Ancient Cultures in the Municipality of Dryanovo” includes a guided visit to Bacho Kiro Cave. Tour arrangements and admission conditions may change; check the current conditions before your visit. The monastery and the cave offer different cultural experiences: a national tourist site on the one hand, and a guided cave visit as part of a cultural route on the other.

Trails and historic sites in the wider region

The Dryanovo eco-trail leads to the Boruna area and the remains of a Roman, Byzantine and medieval Bulgarian fortress. The fortress remains are not conserved, developed or exhibited. The area around Dryanovo Monastery and Bacho Kiro Cave also serves as a starting point for tourist trails to the villages of Bozhentsi, Gesha and Ritlya. Unlike the eco-trail, which leads to Boruna, these trails lead to three villages. Trail availability and local information may change; check both before planning your visit.

The Roman road station near Gostilitsa also gives the surrounding region a historical connection. It stood on the Roman road from Nove, present-day Svishtov, via Nicopolis ad Istrum near the village of Nikyup to Augusta Traiana, present-day Stara Zagora. The site is part of the archaeological cultural heritage. The ancient and present-day place names mentioned locate the station on a historic route between the Svishtov area and Stara Zagora.
