Parks and Birdwatching

The Sea Garden covers 600 decares and stretches for more than five kilometers. Its old section is protected as a monument of garden art. The start of the garden is about a ten-minute walk from Burgas railway station. Construction work may change the walking route, so check the current access in advance. Restaurants serving dishes based on old Burgas recipes are also located along the coastal promenade.

Ezero Park connects the Sea Garden with the protected area of the Atanasovsko Lake Nature Reserve. Its features include rare trees and shrubs, as well as sculptures from an international symposium. The park also has an equestrian base and tennis courts.

Birdwatching in the Poda Protected Area offers a different focus. It is open year-round for this purpose and has designated paths, a bird hide and a tower. A total of 265 bird species have been observed there. Poda and Ezero Park therefore offer different nature experiences: observation and designated routes at Poda, and park vegetation, sculptures and other facilities at Ezero Park.

Cultural Venues and History

The Sea Casino officially opened in 1938 and was restored in 2011, when it reopened as a contemporary cultural center. Its halls and outdoor areas are used for concerts, theater performances, film screenings, exhibitions, book presentations, workshops, training sessions and festivals. The program changes, so check the dates for your planned visit. Binoculars and telescopes are available on the highest terrace for views over Burgas Bay; their availability may also vary from time to time.

Aquae Calidae offers a different way to explore history: the Roman baths dating from the first century AD include warm and cold pools. The fortification walls of the ancient city of Therme, also known as Thermopolis, can also be seen there. The baths and city walls represent two different aspects of the site—the use of the complex and the fortification of the ancient city.

The Burgas Aviation Museum displays civilian and military aircraft that were part of Bulgarian aviation between 1960 and 1996. The interactive Homo Volans exhibition is housed inside an AN-12 aircraft. Visitors can use virtual reality headsets to simulate piloting an aircraft. Equipment availability may vary; if this particular experience is important to you, check the conditions before your visit.

Plan an Island Visit Independently

Throughout its history, Sveti Anastasia Island has served as a monastery and, at times, as a prison. Its facilities include a maritime restaurant, a café with a pharmacy, a small amphitheater, a museum and a small beach. Municipal catamarans run regularly from Magazia 1 at Burgas port to the island. Timetables may change, and weather-related cancellations are possible, so check the connection for your planned date.

Magazia 1 is about a five-minute walk from the public access point to the port and can be reached on foot, by car or by bicycle. This lets you treat the island visit as a separate planning item without assuming a particular departure time or specific weather.

Getting Your Bearings

The Tourist Information Center in Burgas provides information about natural, cultural, architectural and historical attractions in the municipality. Its topics also include tourist routes, food and entertainment, sports facilities, transport and communications. If you have not yet made a definite selection, you can ask there about the topics relevant to your plans.

The Sea Casino offers a changing cultural program; Aquae Calidae features Roman baths and the fortification walls of the ancient city of Therme.
