If you want to plan a trip to Ladário around a specific event, you can start by comparing two religious festival periods: Banho de São João takes place in June, and Festa de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios in October. Naval history and other places in the city offer additional points of interest. This allows you to decide on the purpose of your trip before choosing suitable travel dates and accommodation.

Religious Festival Periods in Ladário

The Banho de São João ritual takes place on the night of June 23–24 at Porto Ladário. Residents gather there to perform the ritual, watch, or take part. In 2021, Banho de São João in Corumbá and Ladário was recognized as Brazilian cultural heritage. Its set dates make the ritual a clearly defined reason to travel in June.

Festa de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, dedicated to Ladário’s patron saint, is celebrated annually from October 15 to 24. The festivities include the traditional Procissão Fluvial. It reenacts the arrival of the statue in the city in 1895. Compared with the June ritual, this is a multi-day celebration, with the procession as a distinct part of the festivities.

The statue of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios also has legal and cultural significance: Municipal Law No. 960/2016, dated July 18, recognized it as part of Ladário’s historical, cultural, and religious heritage. Alongside the festival dates, this gives visitors interested in religious traditions a tangible connection to the city’s history.

Naval History and Places in the City

The Pórtico da Base Naval dates from 1873 and is considered a replica of the Arc de Triomphe. A tour of the naval complex in Ladário described in 2023 traced the history of the Brazilian Navy, included the HU-4 helicopter squadron, among other sites, and ended at the Sala de Memória Tenente Maximiano. The Pórtico and the tour offer different ways to explore naval history: one through a structure, the other through a guided visit with several stops.

Groups interested in visiting could arrange tours in advance. The phone numbers given for this purpose in 2023 were (67) 99904-7056 and (21) 96504-0889; turismo@ladario.ms.gov.br was also listed as a contact. If you are planning a group visit, check the contact details and tour conditions before your trip.

Cristo Redentor is located in the city center and is considered a visitor attraction. Peixe Dourado was among the symbolic places visited on a technical city tour organized by the municipal tourism foundation on July 1, 2025. Together with the Pórtico, these examples illustrate different aspects of exploring and navigating the city, though they do not share the same historical or cultural focus.

Birdwatching in the APA Baía Negra

Another, quite different point of interest is a community-based tourism project featuring birdwatching, carried out in the APA Baía Negra in 2022. Signs depicting native birds were installed at strategic locations. The project thus combined birdwatching with information about the local birdlife. It differs from the dated festivals and naval history sites, adding a community-based nature perspective to the experience of Ladário.

Choose Travel Dates Based on the Occasion

If you are visiting Ladário for one of its religious festivals, the dates provide a concrete basis for planning your trip: the ritual on the night of June 23–24, or Festa de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios from October 15 to 24. If you would also like to visit the naval complex, check in advance whether a tour is available and whether groups need to book ahead.
