In the center of Maracaju is Praça Nestor Pires Barbosa. The square has a modern children’s playground, and its stage is used for cultural events and shows. Events are not held there continuously, so if you’re interested, check the specific program. Details of the square’s facilities can also change; if you’re planning to use them, it’s a good idea to check their current status in advance. Maracaju is also located in the Serra de Maracaju region.
Festivals and Agricultural Events
The Festa de São Sebastião is held annually in Maracaju and attracts a large audience from various parts of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The exact dates and program may vary. Expomara is the municipality’s agricultural fair and takes place every year during the first week of June; its specific event dates may also change. The two occasions therefore differ both in theme and timing: Expomara centers on the agricultural fair and its annual time frame, while Festa de São Sebastião centers on the festival and its audience from several parts of the state.
Showtec adds another event format to the agricultural calendar. Its 29th edition was held in Maracaju on May 19, 20, and 21, 2026, and was considered the largest agricultural event in Mato Grosso do Sul. The 2026 edition brought together companies, farmers, researchers, advisers, executives, and professionals from the production sector; the participating groups may vary from one edition to another. The events have distinctly different places on the calendar: Expomara takes place annually during the first week of June, while the 29th edition of Showtec was held in May 2026.
A Specialty with a Story of Its Own
Linguiça Tradicional de Maracaju bears the GI (Geographical Indication) seal. It is made by hand from beef rather than pork. This clearly defines what makes Maracaju sausage distinctive: both its geographical designation and how it is made set it apart.
Festa da Linguiça de Maracaju is also connected to this specialty. It was launched in 1994 as a project of the Rotary Club de Maracaju to promote and celebrate the city’s signature sausage. This distinguishes the culinary subject from the history of the festival: Linguiça is the product, while Festa is a recurring event founded to promote the specialty.
Agricultural Technology and Remembrance
The Museu das Máquinas de Maracaju – ASCOMAR houses a collection of 40 items, including tractors, agricultural equipment, and restored or donated rarities. The collection may change. ASCOMAR was founded to collect and preserve old tractors. It was inaugurated in 2005 with ten Dutch and Swiss immigrants as members.
The collection and the association’s history present two different sides of agricultural technology: on the one hand, the machines and equipment in the collection; on the other, the history of an organization whose purpose was to collect and preserve old tractors. This focus differs from Maracaju’s fairs and festivals, which take place on specific dates.
Choosing the Reason for Your Trip
The reason for your trip is a helpful starting point when looking for accommodation. If you’re more interested in a particular subject, you can choose between Linguiça as a culinary specialty and the history of agricultural technology. This lets you plan based on whether an event date or a particular subject is the deciding factor.
