Discover Koblach through its landscape and local history. The Koblacher Ried and Kummenberg represent different aspects of nature; the museum, Schollaloch, and Neuburg Castle ruins add prehistoric history and local customs. When planning your visit, consider conservation periods, visitor conditions, and the kind of activity you prefer.

Landscape and Visitor Conditions

Kummenberg is 667 metres high, lies entirely within the municipality of Koblach, and is a popular destination for excursions. The Koblacher Ried covers almost 100 hectares. Its wet meadows are home to 300 plant species. At the same time, the Ried provides a habitat for many species, some of which have become rare, and is used for local recreation. On walks through the Ried, visitors observe plants and animals and recall their names.

When visiting the Ried, observe the conservation rule for the protected wet meadows: every year, access is prohibited from 15 March through 31 August, inclusive. If you would like to visit the Ried during this period, plan your visit so that you do not enter the protected wet meadows.

Prehistory and Koblach Culture

The Museum of Prehistory displays original finds and replicas dating back more than 8,000 years. The finds exhibited in the museum provided evidence of the oldest human settlement in Vorarlberg. Visits and guided tours are possible on weekdays during office hours; appointments can also be arranged with Johannes Tschohl at any time. Bear these visiting hours in mind if you are planning a museum visit.

The ZollArt exhibition space hosts five to six exhibitions each year by members of the KunstVorarlberg association and guest artists. The exhibition space cannot be entered, but can be viewed from all sides at any time.

The Schollaloch open-air museum offers insights into life and work in times gone by. On Schollaloch tours, the Schollasteacher offer nature experiences. The Schollasteacher Carnival Guild also keeps the tradition of Schollenstechen alive and offers Broger's Stall in its customs exhibition space.

Neuburg Castle ruins are also a popular destination for excursions. The Municipality of Koblach and the volunteer Neuburg Castle Ruins Initiative are responsible for their preservation and maintenance.

Activities and Getting There

The embankments along the Rhine and Frutz rivers offer opportunities for cycling, horse riding, and walking. You can choose based on whether you prefer to get around by bike, on horseback, or on foot. Walks through the Ried offer a different focus: observing plants and animals and recalling their names.

Koblach is served by Landbus routes 462 (formerly 57), 461 (formerly 58), and 181 (formerly 22). Check the timetable for your travel date before setting off.
