Göfis offers a choice of nature, archaeology and other visitor activities to suit different travel interests. The Gasserplatz Nature Reserve takes you into a designated moorland area; Heidenburg combines traces from several eras with various structural remains. Sigberg Castle Ruin adds a historical focus, while Sunnahof offers alpaca walks and guided tours. This lets you plan your stay around the topics that interest you most.

Moorland and recreation area at Gasserplatz

Gasserplatz Nature Reserve is a wetland designated as a lowland and transitional bog. Rare bog plants find a habitat there. These features give Göfis’s nature offering a specific focus: moorland and plant life take centre stage here. The southern part of Gasserplatz is laid out as a recreation area where visitors can relax. You can reach it via the regional road from Göfis-Hofen towards Feldkirch. If you are particularly interested in wetlands, Gasserplatz offers a clear starting point when choosing places to visit.

Heidenburg: different eras and architectural forms

The so-called Heidenburg is located on a ridge east of Göfis. It was used from the Bronze Age through the Roman period, and again in the High Middle Ages. This timeline therefore includes earlier periods of use as well as a later connection to the High Middle Ages. A Late Roman fortification stood on the southern summit at Heidenburg and was expanded in at least two construction phases.

The remains of a medieval castle are located on the northern summit. These include a slightly rectangular, keep-like tower with relatively thick walls and a polygonal curtain wall. The distinction between the two summits helps with the historical classification: the southern summit is associated with the Late Roman fortification, and the northern summit with the medieval castle remains. If you are interested in archaeology, you will find both different architectural forms and clearly distinguishable periods here.

Sigberg Castle Ruin and Sunnahof

Sigberg Castle Ruin is located above the crossing of the Ill River between Frastanz and Göfis. It was renovated four times between 2001 and 2008; a recreational area was also created at the ruin. Unlike Heidenburg, whose periods of use and structural remains belong to different eras, Sigberg also brings its more recent renovation history into focus. The two sites therefore offer different ways to explore history.

Alpaca walks and guided tours are offered at Sunnahof in Göfis. The “School on the Farm” programme is also available there. The activities differ: you can choose an alpaca walk, a guided tour or the named educational programme. If you are planning a guided tour, check the current dates in advance.
