The circular hiking trail in Übersaxen is family-friendly and suitable for everyone. It offers views across the entire Rhine Valley to Lake Constance. The Übersaxen Panorama Circular Trail provides varied views of the Walgau and the Rhine Valley. Along the route, wide paths with gentle gradients alternate with short, steep sections on mountain trails. When choosing your route, therefore, consider not only the panorama but also these changes in the trail profile.
Natural Areas and Landscape Features
The Übersaxen-Satteins Natura 2000 site lies within the municipalities of Übersaxen and Satteins. Visitors should stay on the marked paths there. If you include the area in your plans, this guidance is important for finding your way on site. In addition, five biotopes have been designated in Übersaxen; Linden-Baderlie is one of the natural monuments in the municipality.
The Gulmalpe offers another specific point of reference in the landscape: it lies at an elevation of 1,217 m and covers an alpine pasture area of 19.50 hectares.
Cross-Country Skiing, Winter Hiking and Tobogganing
The cross-country ski trail in Übersaxen offers routes measuring 1.5 km or 5 km, with views of the Rätikon Mountains. The two distances give you a clear basis for choosing a cross-country skiing route. In winter, the Alpweg at Übersaxner Gulm is suitable for hiking as a groomed snow trail and is also used for tobogganing. This provides a choice of different winter activities: cross-country skiing on one of the two routes, or winter hiking and tobogganing on the Alpweg. When planning your trip, check the relevant timetable for your journey and consider which activity you would like to do.
Chapels, Church and Local History
St. Anne’s Chapel is located on Romanshöhe and was built in 1974. St. Rochus Chapel dates back much further and is believed to have been built around 1470. This date remains approximate. In 1607, the Lords of Altmannshausen, the chief magistrates in Feldkirch, endowed the plague altar at St. Rochus Chapel. The construction dates and the altar refer to different historical events.
The parish church of St. Bartholomew and the cemetery are also part of the local landscape: the Catholic parish church and cemetery in Übersaxen are protected as historic monuments by ordinance. The Gisalz art project offers another way to explore the area’s culture. It assigns the traditional house marks to the old houses once again. Together with the chapels and church, the project shows that local history can be read not only from buildings but also from traditional symbols.
